Great discussion, and all made great points . On Rafael's point about the " Cut " page in DVR slowly becoming Final Cut Pro, that seems like what is happening BlackMagic Design has bought and added in Fairlight and Fusion from other companies .

Great discussion video! 1:02:48 FWIW, I delivered TV commercials from FCPX and it was a very smooth and easy process. The channel distributor shared a FCP Destination to create an MXF file. Audio specs were a bit challenging, but that's more about compressing/mixing skills. I've always thought FCPX was for 'the rest of us' meaning, not ABC and BBC (although BBC uses FCP... still...probably)

I agree great discussion. I guess I am not seeing the huge learning curve that the panel is describing with Resolve or at least with the edit tools. When you get into the Color page and into Fusion then yes I could see that point. IMO, the cut page is your magnetic timeline like FCPX and the edit page is pretty much FCP7. I worked in both 7 and X for over 20 years and I found the transition to Resolve pretty straight forward. I have worked in AVID FCP Media 100 Premiere etc.. so maybe my experience is different when switching over. I guess the point is don't be afraid of challenging yourself as an editor. The amount of development the industry is doing from Resolve and Premiere and other platforms is leaving FCP in the dust. The AI tools will eventually make you even faster than you would be in FCP.

FCP (and Logic) for iPad was released today-ish. It has Scene Removal Mask, aka. Magic Mask in Resolve. This suggests FCP desktop will get the same.🙌Getting closer.

Having used text-to-video editors, I am sold on the revolutionary potential. Text-to-video takes the 'time-based' out of time-based media. It brings non-linear editing to audio. Nothing has ever saved me so much time. Revolutionary potential, not really being exploited. Why editing text is superior: you can see a huge block of text and perceive structure all at once, ie. it's non-linear; time is removed from equation; you can see detail and the whole all at once; you can see beginning, middle and end all at once. To edit, you drag text blocks from one page and assemble and rearrange on the opposite page. The video clips conform to what you've edited. 

Text-to-video also means you can now have a library of a zillion hours of talking heads and find a clips based on searching text. Or you could use AI to make you 60s vertical, captioned clips for Instagram based on a keyword. These are the sorts of things I'd like to see FCP excel at: nonlinear editing and AI leveraged tools for efficiency

Thanks for doing this conversation, great to see folks having a positive conversation and exploring it from different angles.

For me, the learning curve was there, but for me it's the skill ceiling being so high that I'm always improving and I can almost solve every problem with just a little more work, vs just not being able to do it at all.

I think if Apple released or licensed their magnetic timeline and frame level connection based timeline tools Resolve could run with it. But for, being patented, resolve's cut page can only go so far.

Also Black Magic made the Resolve UI specifically unwieldy and unsuitable for work on small single screen, like laptop. One glaring example is the size of the video monitor pane in the color grading page - its so small you can't see the colors! And no way to make it bigger since all the color tools are at the bottom and no way to move them to the right like in FCP. In FC you can maximize the preview pane and still see the timeline at the bottom and have all color wheels at the right. So you can work on a small 13 inch laptop and still get the job done! I am not even touching on the stupid way the actual color controls are laid out and implemented - definitely to discourage you from working with the mouse and make you buy the proprietary hardware control surfaces from Black Magic!

All I can say, as someone who uses both software for different purposes, Resolve has a lot of weird issues on Mac.

I would use it a lot if it didn’t give me a bunch of weird problems.

Node based visual programming has it’s origins in macos using Quartz Composer deprecated in the modern macos’. Vuo has now superseded it in the main. My guess is that Black Magic adopted that form. Max audio software uses that approach also. FCP and Motion plus Compressor was designed as a simple interface with an openness to integrate plugin architecture. Apart from Logic Pro which in the background environment uses a nodal based workflow and is a brilliant but complex program purchased originally from emagic is not simple but I apart from the detractors happen to think is amazing not only from a song writing perspective but also sound design and much more. Apple seems to have adopted the simple interface for FCP with an ability to adapt plugins while keeping it fast and reliable. Personally I like that approach.

REsolve does not love Mac users thats for sure, since instead of just making the tickbox for "automatic color management" work on mac, they made it not to... work. With Final Cut you start the app - and you start editing, and you are sure that what you see in GUI monitor is the same color and gamma that you'll get after uploading to Youtube or in you QuickTime player. With Davinci you are kind of sure of the opposite.. unless you spend a week on YouTube and other tutorials trying to find out the proper color management settings.

Bruh… you cant even ease in and out a keyframe in FCPX… CapCut can do that lol FCPX is falling SO behind. ITS NOT a main concern of Apple, you have Adobe and Black Magic in film conventions showing the updates proudly. Apple… now where to be seen.
BOTHERS ME. Because is love how fast and efficient FCPX can be. It can be so powerful and they give us the low end of things i feel. I DID NOT want to switch! Im mad that i felt i had to.
