The world is so cruel, I pray future generations can find peace someday.

If You ever have a chance to have a conversation with a legend like this soak it all up and remember it forever because one day there will be none left to tell these stories 💔

My grandfather was a Marine in Iwo Jima during WW2 and he didn't talk much about being there other than eating his lunch next to dead corpses. He spent most of the remainder of his life drinking black label beer and smoking camel non filtered cigarettes. The things these guys must have seen.

“Cursed god for letting him take my place” is a crazy line

Had a great uncle that was Iwo Jima but sadly he never came back home. We were told that he was killed by a Japanese sniper, but in losing a member of our family when ended up gaining two new members. When the war was over two unit members from my great uncle unit showed up at our house and told us that all my great uncle ever talked about was his family. My great Aunt said that she knew about them because my great uncle wrote letters to her about them and told her that they had no family. One of the boys came from an abusive household and the other was an orphan so naturally they became family to us and never left our hometown. While we lost a great man to war, we gained two great men thanks to the war. Two great men found a family because of the war and my great uncle so there is some good that came out of a horrible situation. This is story is told all the time in my family so while I never got to meet my great uncle I still feel incredibly proud of him along with my other great uncles. They don’t talk much of their time in the war but speak fondly of my great uncle and his jokester ways.

My Popaw was a marine on Iwo Jima. Shot in the shoulder from behind. Came home and had twelve children and retired as an electrician in the coal mines. Different breed, these guys.

my grandfather passed away in 2023 but he was an iwo jima veteran …what these men saw and did was not minuscule and their stories deserve your attention even to this day 75+ years later don’t ever forget

I love this guy. He is a nice gentleman and polite as can be. You can tell it's hard for him to talk about his experiences still to this day. Bless his heart for his service.

Shaun handled this perfectly. Once a veteran starts down their dark memories, you should listen quietly. Be the wall that guards them from the world while they relive that darkness.

God bless you Sir.
Thankyou for your sacrifice and heroism!
I had a Grandfather who fought in Europe and a Grandfather who fought in Japan. The one who fought in Europe spoke about the "great war" all the time. I was raised by him and my grandmother, and if I EVER was ungrateful for the food on our table or had complaints about school, he would always remind me of the hell he fought through for American freedom. I try to make sure my son and daughter know about the importance of what their great grandfathers did.
My other grandfather, who fought in Okinawa, NEVER Ever talked about the war. We had no idea how decorated he was until we opened his foot locker when he passed.
He had 2 purple hearts and bronze star...
He never spoke about it, at all.
Also in the locker was a samurai sword, a Japanese flag that was falling apart covered in bullet holes and some blood, and his small pistol. We didnt even know he was a medic! The pistol was the only thing medics carried!
Truly the greatest generation!
Im happy to see a WWII vet survice long enough to share their story on an internet podcast. I hope young people see this

I can't thank you enough for giving these men and women a platform to share their stories and allow us to appreciate and recognize their valor...and learn what sacrifice and live for fellow man and God truly looks like. In a time in the world when people seem so disconnected and superficial and distracted, i find great fulfillment and connection in watching your interviews. You have truly found your calling! Thank you, Shawn!

My grandfather fought in Guadalcanal, shot in the shoulder. Just recently lost him back in October of 23. One hell of a Marine.
