DUDE!!! I did like 4 videos on this radio!! When the VFO's are in two different bands the relay clicks back and forth for dual watch. Turn off dual watch and the clicking will stop. Beautiful radio with VERY dirty spurious emissions!! 73 DE KD5FMU

Compander is used when radio is set to Narrow band. Compander is a contraction of compression and expansion. If you use the radio in narrow mode with Compander off and are talking to another individual who is also set to narrow mode properly his audio level to you will appear weak and low and he will hear your transmission clipping.
Narrow Compander mode is used in the states where the FCC has cut the deviation level from 5 KHz to 2.5 KHz. This allows for the use of the "split channels" channels that were once allocated to low power industrial channels for in house communications in factories and hotels. This basically frees up these channels or frequencies for regular high power use in a wider area, effectively doubling the spectrum available to more users. So far it is an American thing to free up more frequencies for more users.
Radios being sold in the USA Today must be narrow band capable for commercial use and "locked out" of wide band use unless one is a licensed amature radio operator.

I just got mine very pleased so far . The S meter is a bit generous but it receives my local repeater clearer than my Yaesu991A. Thanks for the videos . G4VYC.
