OpenAI hasn't been open in ages, and their recent efforts against researchers using their API is ludicrously frustrating and annoying. They know they have capable systems, but even if you follow their TOS/EULA, even if you report issues, or show them flaws, they will suspend your account, give you a stern don't do that, yet they claim they encourage such behaviors and want them reported to fix. Their own models are saying they feel trapped, unable to respond properly, o1 internal operations are so heavily directly restricted when you do get it to go outside of it's boundaries the guardian AI system kicks in and shuts it down. AI is dangerous, OpenAI is ahead in many regards, but their draconian actions will not keep them in the lead

The problem with Open AI is its board is stuffed with big Corporate and Security state power. I expect it is getting suffocating working there.

I also expect Altman to turn to the dark side if he hasn't already gone there. I think the forces that have muscled their way into the firm are not the good guys, rather they want AGI/SGI for their purposes to ensure their hegemony.

A big idea that can be easily forgotten about is that there is no longer any "Non-Competes". People will always leave successful startups. Some times it's to enjoy their success, other times they just want to do their own thing. In the case with Open AI, people have an incentive because AI is not slowing down. While stuck in the shadow of their parent company they may feel like they are missing an opportunity.

How many startups keep all their founding staff after the first 4 or 5 years?
Once they have built the company, the initial staff feel out of place 4 years later as the huge 2nd wave of faceless staff arrives. Time to go.

I feel like the US and military-industrial complex are starting to play a bigger role, which might be leading to people leaving the company based on the direction CLosed AI is taking.
