Half of the world’s streams flow only part of the year. For researches at KU and seven other schools, a deeper understanding of these intermittent streams is the aim.

Aquatic Intermittency Effects of Microbiomes in Streams, or AIMS, is a four-year research project funded by a $6 million National Science Foundation grant and headquartered at the University of Kansas. This video highlights AIMS fieldwork in rural Kansas. Additional research will take place in the Southeast and Mountain West regions of the U.S., creating a network of data and findings that will inform the science and legislation of water moving forward.
