The best advice I can give to an aspiring astronomer/astrophysicist is Learn to Code - but how do I use coding in my job as an astrophysicist? Here's 5 ways!

Hi, I'm Thomas, a first year PhD student at Cardiff University. This is my channel where I share my experiences of academia and pieces of Physics and Astronomy I find interesting.
If you enjoy videos from Simon Clark, Dr Becky or Ruby Granger, I think you'll enjoy my videos!

Hi Thomas, I just wanted to comment and thank you for your channel and content as I have always wanted to pursue science in some capacity or another but unsure as to what exactly I wanted to pursue. After having watched your videos in the run up to submitting my UCAS, I applied for Astrophysics courses at Glasgow, Edinburgh, Strathclyde and St. Andrews, and have had offers back from 3 of them so far! Thanks a lot, because without having come across your channel, I likely wouldn't have seriously considered astrophysics as a field that I would have wanted to study in but seeing a fellow Scot go through the same process and education system as I, and successfully pursue Astrophysics and go on to become a PhD student has inspired me to hopefully do the same.

Informative and entertaining video Thomas, thank you. It seems to me (for what it's worth) that this is the type of thing you can do that differentiates you from other content creators - blending something that we might all be familiar with (coding) and how it applies to your particular area of interest. We might not all do simulations of the Inter Galactic Medium but most of us have tried to create a visualisation to communicate information from a bunch of seemingly random data. I don't fully understand what you do but I enjoy trying to wrap my head around it. Thank you.

As a fellow PhD student I'm really looking forward to your video on how to make a good visualisations!

this is great insight, behind the scenes to the process... what is your hardware setup?

Very interesting video as always. I was wondering if you are ever planning to make a video talking about how you believe AI will change the way we do scientific research and what the impact will be on the job market. Would love to hear your thoughts about this

Looking forward to more coding videos!

My original/current background is in software development (Java), teaching myself Python. I'm studying Astronomy and Planetary Sciences, and want to pursue this for my career 2.0. What resources do you recommend for learning the astronomy pieces of Python?

Very interesting video. I am just finishing my GCSEs, looking forward to physics and hopefully later astro. What did you do to make your nice animations? Was it something like Manim for the one with the file size comoparisons at the start?
