"A few imperials laughed an cheered, a few cried, but most were silent"

Nice Oppenheimer reference there.

"It's over Alderaan. I have the high ground" - Death Star

"But as time went by he became almost obsessively loyal to the empire, a fanatic to the Imperial cause. He came to justify the death of his planet and family as a necessary sacrifice to ensure the peace and stability of the empire." You can't cope much harder than this

And the Death Star Trooper who fired it said
_"Now I have become Death, the Destroyer of Worlds"_

I still think this was the Empire's biggest mistake if only for what follows afterwards. The Death Star's destruction. Since now the whole galaxy knew that the empire was willing and able to cause mass genocide, it turns a lot of heads towards the rebellion. Then when the Death Star got destroyed, it showed the the Empire could be fought against. Wining was a possibility and the Rebels used the destruction and the loss of Alderaan to bring several to their cause. In the end, this is what led to the eventual destruction of the Empire and the rise of the New Republic.

Those soldiers who thought this would scare the galaxy into submission, at least assuming they got out before Yavin, must’ve got a rude awakening when learning of the backlash.

All destroying Alderaan did for the Imperial's, was give the Alliance legitimacy, and start the slow but sure breaking of the Empire's hold over the galaxy.

This is the kind of stuff i wish was done for the spin-off films. It would be different, unique, and add character and detail to a universe where the all films gloom over it and Fans are left to rely on wiki pages and videos to learn more.

Also more imperial officers with character would be nice

I'm curious what would have happened if they in fact would have performed a low orbit flyby above Alderaan for the people to witness the completed behemoth that was the Death Star, without the planet being destroyed.

1:11 *Thane:* ""That's Alderaan! I have a friend who's from there."

*Young imperial officer:* "OH, cool."

Dunno why but that cracks me up!XD

Maybe it's because picturing the evil galactic empire's cronies as not a bunch of faceless goons but just some folks who just so happened to enroll with one of the empire's many *generous military sponsored scholarships, * just so they can have a short tour of duty before returning to the civilian sector in order to pursue a high paying career is just....well *"causally funny"* to imagen. *Y'know normal space people stuff...*

Star Wars manga, why isn't there more of that?

When I heard the line “Some People Laughed, Some People Cried But Most Were Silent” I couldn’t help but think of the message that one man gave about “Now I Have Become Death. The Destroyer Of Worlds” and I think that basically symbolized that how the Death-Star became the literal destroyer of worlds.

I like how this references J. Robert Oppenheimer's "I am become Death, Destroyer of Worlds" speech.
