The Three Body Problem is the first book in a series of science fiction books called the Remembrance of Earth’s Past by Cixin Liu. The Three Body Problem was originally published in Chinese in 2008 and was republished in English in 2014. The Following Books, The Dark Forest, and Death’s End were also translated and published in English in the two year following the English publication of the first. In This video I will attempt to explain the series in under five minutes with minimal spoilers!

I think you would be good at narrating audio books. I'd get an audio book if I knew it was narrated by you.

The way that hauntingly ´´Dark Forest´´ analogy gets played out, makes it terrifying to contemplate because it is actually is so simple to imagine being real, and that makes the story so brilliant.

I am just now working my way through the final chapters of "Death's End". OMG! This series keeps the surprises and revelations coming.

I still think the scariest sci-fi I read, and the one I strongly suspect Cixin Liu cribbed his dark forrest idea from (Even the metaphor of the dark forest seems to strongly hint at Pelegrino's "Central park after dark". The idea that alien aggression isn't about hate or anger, but a simple calculus of "Kill the other fellow before that fellow kills you" rational self interest, is chilling and the novel posits that a game theory reading of the fermi paradox suggests that BECAUSE the universe is silent it means that it means if aliens, *any* aliens, ever detect us, we are pretty much dead, and we'd do well to behave the same towards them.

"“Imagine yourself taking a stroll through Manhattan, somewhere north of 68th street, deep inside Central Park, late at night. It would be nice to meet someone friendly, but you know that the park is dangerous at night. That's when the monsters come out. There's always a strong undercurrent of drug dealings, muggings, and occasional homicides.

It is not easy to distinguish the good guys from the bad guys. They dress alike, and the weapons are concealed. The only difference is intent, and you can't read minds.

Stay in the dark long enough and you may hear an occasional distance shriek or blunder across a body.

How do you survive the night? The last thing you want to do is shout, "I'm here!" The next to last thing you want to do is reply to someone who shouts, "I'm a friend!"

What you would like to do is find a policeman, or get out of the park. But you don't want to make noise or move towards a light where you might be spotted, and it is difficult to find either a policeman or your way out without making yourself known. Your safest option is to hunker down and wait for daylight, then safely walk out.

There are, of course, a few obvious differences between Central Park and the universe.

There is no policeman.

There is no way out.

And the night never ends.”
― Charles Pellegrino, The Killing Star

I just finished Deaths End and now feel like a fish in an ecosphere hidden in a mini-universe.

What an amazing series, and I love your narration on these.

You got me into the series and it is now my favorite SciFi series ever. There were so many original ideas that you haven’t even touched on, it was epic in the grandest sense I have ever seen.

For science fiction readers or just those of us who love the genre this is far and away the best channel for referencing the world of science fiction literature or film.

Cixin Liu and his publisher owe you a check. I bought Book 1 off of your recommendation. Didnt even finish it before buying Books 2 & 3. I'm now on the final chapters of Death's End. Phenomenal series.

I just started reading this series based on Quinn’s previous videos but stopped watching after the spoiler warning. This video plugs that gap so great job.

I'm almost done with The Dark Forest and this series is already one of my all time faves. The nihilism, the philosophy, all of it. SO GOOD.
