CB90: Next-generation fast assault boat protecting Ukraine's Black Sea defences

preview_player
Показать описание
The CB90, originally developed by Saab for the Swedish Navy, is a fast military assault craft, which can carry up to 20 troops and cargo, in shallow or open waters.

Three of these combat boats have been donated to the Ministry of Defence of Ukraine to help the country with its defences in the Black Sea.

But what can the CB90 do?

The improvements are analogous to that of an armorered personnel carrier to an infantry fighting vehicle. It went from a transport vessel to one that can transport marines while also having the firepower to provide suppressive fire, infantry fire support, and limited engagement against other vessels.

This looks like a possible strong contender for the Royal Marines Future Assault Raiding Craft Requirement?

A lot of people seem to be hung up on the '90' part of the name. Mercedes-Benz G-class is from the 1970 and still going strong.. And they cost like a smaller royal castle.

⚠️ Team FN 👊🏼
Clearly, it's a great platform for marines... 🌊
🇸🇪 SAAB makes practical, no-nonsense military hardware that is robust & reliable, like all other Scandinavian countries.
- It's hardwired in their DNA...
Thanks for sharing,
Skol! 🍻

If only they did a civilian version like most Swedish boats; the coolest boat around with soft furnishings and custom build

I like that remote weapons station. It would have been nice in Vietnam. On PBRs the enemies plan was always to get the machine gunners first. Especially the bow twin 50s. Nice to see the American M-2 50. It make me wonder how many exist in the worlds' militaries. Apparently Browning knew how to design.

That thing can stop and turn on a dime. When it "slams its brakes", hold onto your lunch, just gonna say.

About time the UK had something to defend our sea

The need for Littoral combat and the associated equipment is increasing, there is less need for deep water fleets anymore unless you are a superpower needing to respond globally. Warfare is an ever-changing function of politics.

Some thing the Royal Navy could use a fleet of for home waters . However with the development of modular systems like type 31 and Boxer, drone and missile modules would vastly alter the characteristics of this boat. Given the financial restrictions and commitment to nuclear arms, the UK government has to amalgamate our armed forces, concentration priority with the Navy . So navy larking all round, airforce and army all under the admiralty. Marines is the future, start growing gills.
