I'm no ciso but I'd say what has changed in the past few years is not so much the creativity of threat actors, but how well funded and how well organized they have become. If you're not a fortune 500 company they are now better funded and better organized than your team is, as often as not. Often they systematically exploit vulnerabilities in a way I never saw 10years ago.
