The Bible does not say anything about how old the earth is. Genesis 1:1 simplys states that "In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth." It doesn't specify how long that was. The six days of creation do not begin until Genesis 1:3, after the earth was already created.

"Interpretation" means that we have to use our human wisdom to understand what the author was trying to communicate. It is not disrespecting the author to adjust what we think the intention behind the text was. Throwing a fit, reducing scripture into simple two dimensional topics, forcing divisions, and stirring up dissent... that is the real problem.

This is an issue. I mean, what's next!?! If we realize a Hebrew word was mistranslated, are we just going to start interpreting scripture based on this new understanding??? I hope not.

Lol any arguement for the age of the earth or universe is a geocentric arguement. If you disagree with that then please explain what your reference of time is based on for the supposed first 10 billion years before the earth and sun.

For example the very old age of the universe is based on light years which is the distance and speed light travels in a year. To get a speed, light travels at 186, 000 miles per second, you must be able to define what a second is because speed is distance over time.

For the universe to be older than the earth and physics still work "universally" you have to define a second without reference to the earth and sun.

And no the Cesium 133 atom does not define time it keeps time as we have already defined it based on the earth sun relationship.

I would love to debate Dr. Ross on this topic.

Science will never change when it comes to how old the earth is because all records show its old. All methods to rest how old someone or something is says it's old.

Why would we not be allowed to reexamine our understanding of Scripture? That is exactly what biblical geocentrists had to do in response to Copernicus. Is he suggesting we should have dismissed evidence of heliocentricity because of our own fallible understanding of scripture?

This is embarrassing. It would be very reasonable to reconsider your positions if experts in a particular discipline tipped the evidence toward a particular belief in a major way
