Pretty clever. I never actually thought of that. Side note: Once you get the split started you can use a shaped wooden stake as a wedge to spare your blade (that may be a folder, or non full tang) This is also how you would split wood with your folding saw or multitool. Simply make a deep enough cut and pound a wedge in it. Ideally a denser wood like oak is used for the stake/wedge.

The same goes with the Ferrocenium rod. Have the rod scrap the knife, not the knife scrape the rod. Place the knife in a stub and then just scratch the rod on the knife.
