Hello, I don't get why AutoCAD MEP is not considered a BIM Software, you can work with catalog objects and attach attributes and information related to each part. Besides, you can export and import IFC 2x4 files. I guess the big difference is that you may not need a huge architecture software like Revit if your work is based and specialized only in piping installations. To see the entire work (or the big picture if you want) is enough with a good visualizer like Navisworks or another...
