One of the first drum books I ever bought was "Realistic Rock" by Carmine Appice. So when Carmine was booked for a lesson at Drumeo I was unbelievably excited and nervous. The lesson went great and I know you'll enjoy it!

Carmine Appice became known worldwide for his astonishing live performances as the drummer for Vanilla Fudge, in addition to becoming a highly sought-after session drummer playing with countless artists including Rod Stewart, Ozzy Osborne, Ted Nugent, and Pink Floyd.

As an educator, Carmine was the first to legitimize rock drumming with his landmark book, "The Realistic Rock Drum Method", selling more than 400,000 copies. In appreciation for his universal appeal, he was forever immortalized via his induction in cement to Hollywood's Rock Walk of Fame.

I hope that the ‘you tube’ generation really appreciates how fortunate it is to see legends like this show how it’s done. 40 years ago when I was learning the drums we had to listen to LPs over and over to try to figure this stuff out.

Carmine is the pioneer of big fat rock drumming. The guy invented it ! He was the very first drummer to play like that, and therefor he deserves a lot of respect. Living drum legend.

I really admire how Carmine has adapted through the years, going through psychedelic rock into his heavier playing now. I think its something all drummers can learn from; and what a great guy too!

Realistic Rock was the 1st drum set book I worked through and man I felt like a champion after getting through it. I'm still inspired by his creativity and ability to teach which really is a gift most don't have.

Very impressive! Thanks Drumeo for showing Carmine Appice the respect he deserves. It's not only a great way to showcase Carmine's monster chops but also his gift for teaching, thus inspiring a whole new generation of drummers.

Carmine is a true drumming legend, an icon, a pioneer. I remember, back in 1977 when I was 16, I heard him play for the first time on Rod Stewart's Foot Loose & Fancy Free album. One particular song really sent shivers down my spine (and still does), it's the intro of You Keep Me Hangin' On... I was totally mesmerized, never heard anybody play drums like that. Carmine's monumental sound, his fat, lazy, big rock solid groove is just so cool. Nobody can play like that, as far as I know. John Bonham came close, but Carmine was the inventor of this style of playing. The fact that, after almost 50 years, this guy is still going strong and kicking ass is truly awesome.

Underrated drummer. He may seem to 'talk it up' a bit in various interviews, but I feel he offers a unique perspective both in terms of his sound and approach, and of the times in which he came to prominence as a player. His genuine ability and humility in offering up various techniques is to be respected.

We all have to realize ..wether John Bonham would have admitted it or not ..this man was a massive influence on him ..Yes John took it to another level ... but Carmine Appice deserves much respect !!!

Back in the summer of 1988, I bought Realistic Rock with the floppy LPs. At the time I hadn't a clue about how to play drums. Thanks to his book, I was able to figure out tons. Man those were some great memories sweating my buns off in my garage in Oklahoma. He's a legend.

I love this guys sound. Sounds amazing through headphones. It's that double bass drum control that makes it. Love it.
