What are the major threats to migratoy birds? What is at stake, what can we do?!

This video has been created by a UN Online Volunteer to help better understand how Their Future and Our Future are interconnected and raise awareness on the urgent need for a sustainable management of our resources all around the world - for migratory birds, and for humankind.

When we observe nature from afar we think of it as a wonderful thing, forgetting that we are part of it.
Well, let me remind you how we are all interconnected.
Take the Barn Swallow for example. For a long time we have been living close together.
But in recent years, its populations have taken a hit.
As agriculture intensifies, the overuse of harmful pesticides reduces the number of prey.
Our actions seem to be becoming more dangerous for many species, including ourselves.
Trapping is one of the main causes of the Spoon-billed Sandpiper’s decline.
This species is critically endangered! With an estimated number of breeding individuals ranging from 360 to 600.
The conservation of these birds means having to develop a sustainable lifestyle for all of us.
And to preserve them all along their flyways, international cooperation is needed.

We need a healthy planet for migratory birds and people
Because Their Future is Our Future

World Migratory Bird Day is an annual global campaign to raise awareness of the ecological importance of birds.
On the 10th of May, people from all over the world gather to take action.
