NEW! FREE XACTIMATE MACRO STARTER PACK

---------------------------------------------------------------------

In this video, learn how to start a career as a claims adjuster. Can you work from home? How much can you make? And what are the first steps?

Independent property claims adjusters (aka IAs) are called to work natural disasters - big and small - and we travel around the country inspecting storm damage and writing estimates for insurance companies. That's pretty much it in a nutshell.

Even though what people typically think of as natural disasters are hurricanes and wildfires, there are also usually dozens of smaller storms in the midwest that produce large, damaging hail and high winds; including tornados. But in order for independent adjusters to be activated, those storms have to hit areas with a lot of houses and structures that can be damaged.

Since I've started going down the "adjuster" trabbit hole, your content by far stands out as the most informative and organized content.

Last year I met some adjusters but one of them was a Public adjuster and we build a really good relationship and he offered me to work as his estimator… and now I have over a year experience on large losses claims and specially working on Xactimate, and few certifications like IICRC, Xactimate lvl 1, 2… and currently I’m studying to take the test and get my adjuster license so I can move on and work as IA and eventually maybe as a PA

I just accepted a position as a field property CAT adjuster for a big insurance company so i won’t be independent but I’ve been here for 5 years. I’m excited to start traveling after training and helping our customers.

Im so glad to have found this channel! A wealth of information. My question is can you turn down certain assignments or are these companies counting on you to accept every one they reach out to you for? And if you can and do turn some away, does that hurt your chances of being contacted regularly?

You forgot to mention being on call for being an IA. That means if a serious loss happens you better be ready to get up at 2 am if the phone rings to collect the info. You also need to have a good repor with police.

Curious if you are able to do IA part time?

I assume the search for every possible coverable item has to do with the fact that the insurance company you are working for has Re-Insurance to cover THEM. Am I right? is the Re-Insurance payback to the Insurer an actual source of REVENUE to the insurer in this situation?

How can you apply to firms once you get your address or license insurance for all states Florida? If you have no experience, how do you get hired? Where can I promote myself?

This is a great video! Question - how do you handle insurance companies that refuse to work with third party claim handlers? Thanks!

Are there only adjusters for natural disasters? What about medical and dental claims?

I wish I had known this before I obtained an adjuster license and state farm certifications.

1. How to get a claims adjuster license: High School diploma
2. How to get work as a claims adjuster: Obtain a 4-year bachelor's degree in risk management and insurance.

If you don't have any type of college degree, then you have no chance of even getting hired. But you might get a chance with IA firms (even free training), but you will have to handle your own travel expenses - hotel, food, gas, etc. If you don't own a car, then good luck renting a car for about 30 days.

Edit 2/26/2023 - You can get hired also if your past jobs has any relevance to claims adjusting: sales job, police, network service helper, customer services, or any other "college" degree. If you see yourself wanting to do this in the future and you have no past job experience relevant to this field of work, then GOOD LUCK.

Also, INDEPENDENT afjuster firms hire and train new people, but you have to have your own equipment, and a presentable- work friendly vehicle is preferred. I'm not saying anyone new can't get hired, but be prepared to spend some money until you get paid your first week.
