This actually happened in Beirut, in Lebanon, where the Saudi princess was studying, along with her distant cousin. The two secretly married, and when her family found out, ordered her to return home. At first, the couple were apprehensive of the consequences, but were tricked to return when the family assured her that they were forgiven. But the head of the Bedouin clan, her grandfather, demanded their execution. .she, by stoning, and her husband, by the customary decapitation. The Saudi King was not agreeable to the punishments, but had to give in to the grandfather's demand. The sentences were carried out in the public square, the groom being forced to watch the Princess' stoning, afterwhich, he, too, was executed.
