I understand people getting annoyed with AI being a gimmicky term added to everything, but idk why anyone's surprised and upset when Google does it. They were the first major tech company to declare themselves an AI-first company almost 10 years ago, well before others like Apple and Samsung started using the term for branding. It's like everyone copied Google but now suddenly people are getting mad and saying Google is the one following the AI trend?

Zoom enhance is still missing. Why announce new features if others are not even available yet 😂

I'm not too interested in making fake pictures by editing virtually everything and everyone

2:12 After the Zoom Enhance, I don't think we can trust any of the "coming soon"

I'm definitely looking forward to the new extensions within Gemini. Especially the "Phone" one. I hope there's one for stuff like "Notifications". I'm also looking forward to the Studio and Pixel Screenshots.

Glad to see that 'add me' is just a clever compositing / merging tool. I was worried it was gonna do some creepy AI generated stuff, allowing you to add people who weren't even there.

I've had my 8 Pro since launch and I can't even recall the last time I used any of the so-called AI features and that's bad for Google. These features should be ingrained into the OS in many ways and work mostly in the background. That's definitely not the case right now. Google is expecting users to remember what these features are, where they can be used and in what scenarios they can best be utilized and that's asking a lot from the user and it comes off as very gimmicky when the user has to perform all these mental gymnastics.

Let's look at what Apple is trying to do in contrast. In yesterday's iOS 18.1 Beta released to iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max users, the Writing Tools specifically is baked in across the OS level not on a specific app or function level or I believe even region specific and from what testing has been done (I don't own either of these devices, just read about others testing), it works pretty flawlessly.

Probably the most reliable and class leading feature of a Pixel right now for me has to be the speech recognition which is one of these ways like Writing Tools in the iOS 18.1 Beta where it's baked into the OS and works incredibly well in any writing scenario. Google needs to focus their AI efforts to providing real world value/tools to their users either to save them time on a task that would otherwise have to be performed all manually or other useful new features without it coming off as a gimmick or something cutesy to show off to their friends once and then go completely forgotten and unused afterwards.

Thank you for the info! The call recording and screenshot features seem interesting to me. The "add me' one, not so much. I like pictures to reflect reality, not invent it. And I hope they work with Pixel 8 Pro, as I'm not thinking of an upgrade at this point!

Super high res zoom never came and that was one of the features I was looking forward to with my pro 8. So who knows if any of these will or won't actually release. But the call recording will be a welcome feature if they actually implement it.

All good and great but it'll have an Exyshit processor. So no. Will wait for pixel 11 maybe

Love the screenshots feature. This might bump me over from an iPhone to Pixel this year.

I have the Pixel 6, here in Germany features or new features of the feature drop come very late. That's why there's often no added value to having a Pixel. I'm waiting for the Pixel 10 with the first real Google custom chip on a 3nm basis manufactured by TSMC

So magic editor, magic eraser, and circle to search isn't a new thing on any new Pixel device. I can't figure out why Google keeps marketing it like it is. I have it on my 7

My main question is how many of these features will be coming to the 8 Pro eventually anyway? My Pixel 7 already has multiple features which launched on the 8 series originally and I'm considering upgrading to the 8 Pro for its telephoto camera and brighter screen now it's on sale.

Who recorded this audio it’s sounded so robotic, it’s horrible.

Where are features like 50 watt charging, 5500mah battery, up to date processor, improved camera sensors, face id?

Any of these or is google going for gimmicks again?
