I grew up near the sea. My father was as a sailor for some time, then becoming a nautical engineer, and my mother lived most of her life at sea as well. The sound of the waves from the Mediterranean have always been soothing to me since birth, and I remember summers when we would sail onto the Adriatic Sea. As I've moved away from those sunny shores, I find myself in a much colder environment. There are still waves here, but the Northern Seas feel foreign, their melodies discordant, incompatible with those within me. It has been a struggle to work on my Master’s thesis during this time, as I feel individualised, and alone in this cold environment. But the sounds of these waves remind me of something within my soul, within my DNA, and it brings me solace, warmth, and focus. This is not where I fail, this is not where I stumble, and I will hear those waves again, soon.
