Learn how to remove and replace the keyboard for the HP ZBook 15 G5, G6 Mobile Workstation.

Before you begin: Remove the service door and battery.
Removal
Remove the three 6.5 mm P1 Phillips-head screws identified with keyboard icon that secure the keyboard to the top cover.
Place the notebook on its side and open the display panel.
While supporting the notebook, insert a keyboard release tool into the opening in the base enclosure identified with “KB release” and gently press the keyboard to partially release it from the top cover.
Close the display panel and set the notebook down with the bottom facing up.
Align the service door with base enclosure and lower it into position.
Slide the service door toward the rear of the notebook until it is secure and the service door latch clicks.
Slide the service door latch to the locked position.
Turn the notebook over and open the display panel.
Carefully release the remaining edges of the keyboard from the top cover.
Using minimal force, lift the locking bar up on the point stick ZIF connector and disconnect the point stick ribbon cable from the system board.
Using minimal force, lift the locking bar up on the keyboard backlight ZIF connector and disconnect the keyboard backlight ribbon cable from the system board.
Using minimal force, lift the locking bar up on the keyboard ZIF connector and disconnect the keyboard ribbon cable from the system board.
Remove the keyboard.
Reverse this procedure to install the keyboard.

Additional helpful Info: To reassure the nervous, I have just followed these instructions to successfully remove the keyboard on my ZBook 17 G6 . It really was as easy as it looks in the video! There were no major unexpected difficulties. If I have anything to feedback to you it will be that the rear of my laptop was slightly different. However, all three screws WERE marked with the keyboard symbol to identify them AND the KB release port was also CLEARLY marked despite my panel looking different. Also to note: When prizing apart the keyboard ALWAYS start along the top row, going from left to right. This is because thee lips along the top are much shorter than those along the bottom and are designed to be prized away. The lips at the bottom are much deeper and are designed to allow the keyboard slide away. There are short lips running along the left and right edges too. I did not have the plastic keyboard removal tool shown but used the handle end of a narrow plastic fork with no issues. Do not be tempted to yank the keyboard apart using your hands. You will cause the keyboard to bend and lose its shape. However, it does also recover its shape well. You must prise it apart with a narrow toothbrush or wooden lollipop stick. The keypad clips back into place even easier than it comes out. The lips withstood the removal process BUT I observed under magnification that the coating comes off as a powder. This powder can get into the electronics as dust but it is not conductive so there is no risk of shorting any circuits. That's it! Good luck!
