GENERAL LUNA, SIARGAO - In 2021, a super typhoon devastated the islands of Visayas and Mindanao, leaving countless people homeless and countless structures destroyed. One of the hardest-hit areas was Siargao. Amid the destruction, a simple tiny house on Siargao's busiest road stood firm. With other buildings flattened, roads submerged, and coconut trees damaged, it's incredible to see how this tiny house survived the onslaught. Whether it was luck, smart design, or quality construction, what stands out is this tiny house braved the full force of a super typhoon. This experience has further strengthened the owner's appreciation for a simple life and for finding contentment.

Join Janos, a Siargao local, as he shares the story of his Tiny White House, the inspiration behind its design, and the sense of fulfillment he's discovered in embracing a minimalist lifestyle.

Iba iba tlaga ang taste. Hindi ko masyadong ma appreciate. Mas maganda pa rin tlaga kung professional na architect or engineer ang gumawa. Bigyan mo lang sya ng idea ng design na gusto mo.

"hindi ko kailangan ng malaking bahay" is the line that we should take to heart....

That makes sense na i-keep yung mga trees. Good for the environment. Yung iba, ginagawang concrete jungle kasi greedy sa pera, hindi na iniisip ang kalikasan.

I think kaya less damage 'yung tinake ng house din, is because sinalo ng mga puno some of the blows, kaya thankful din ako minsan talaga sa mga trees and plants. At the same time though, nakikita kong possible maging problem din are also trees. May ilang puno medyo padikit sa bahay, so usually may mga sangang babagsak sa house mo directly, or 'yung ugat sa ilalim gumapang sa ilalim ng bahay.

Actually a great design. It's clean, looks spacious for a tiny space & near the beach! The separate kitchen is a great idea. It's apparent he loves his space.

I love it you maintain the preservation of the land. The separation of the kitchen area is well thought out.

I really liked your white tiny house.

Ganda ng bahay at matibay. Beach front din house ng parents ko. Naging priority talaga namin yung tibay bago yung pag paganda. Mahirap pag may malakas na bagyo.

One can really tell if a person's an architect at heart when he considers not only his needs, but also his surroundings, when building a structure. It's true, humans aren't the only inhabitants of this earth and we should also put everything in consideration. Kudos to the tiny house owner for respecting his surroundings, the coconut trees, and for loving the island of Siargao. I hope more people in the Philippines think like this. You see architects building great, and extravagant designs for the money, but have no respect to nature and surroundings. They cut century old trees for profit, and this for me is an offense. A simple design that respects nature goes a long way. This is why the gods of nature and the coconut trees (some even sacrificed their lives) protected this home.
