On today's show, I was surprised by Kobo sending me the new Kobo Elipsa for review. I have my Kobo Elipas on order and can't wait to get mine. I wanted to do a few take and just show you right out of the box what comes with it and first initial feelings about it. Thanks for watching as always.

It has been said before the reMarkable 2 has the best design elements and even a year later it still resonates as leading in design. I am in the reMarkable camp as a daily user and enjoy it each time I use it. Thanks for the review JB!

Between you and My Deep Guide, I finally decided on an eInk note taker. Went with a Supernote A5X and loving it so far.

I saw the Kobo Elipsa announcement a day after placing my order. And it seems like an awesome device for a first gen product. For me, I don't think it's worth it personally since I already have a Kindle Oasis as my eReader. Just wanted a pure note taker. And with the active stylus on this one, it really came down to the rM2 and the A5X for me. Still looking forward to your review. Thanks for all you do.

Question: I'm a student, and usually need to read PDFs and then jump quickly to another file to do notes of it, (i.e. math problem from a PDF copy it to a note and solve it, how easy is it to jump from a PDF to a notebook for notes? Can I copy like a partial screenshot of a PDF and past it in a notebook for notes?
Thanks Coach!

seems to have some great features but I don't see any support for folders to organise your notes

Would be keen to know how this performs with large (say 5-10MB) PDF files - I have the Kobo Aura one and I have found it is next to impossible because 1) the screen is too small and you have to keep shifting around; and 2) there isnt enough memory/processing power to handle larger file and the device freezes all the time. Hopefully this one does the job better!

My biggest question is: what happens to the notes I take on a pdf or ebook? Can I export them? I how do I export other kind of notes?

Hi JB, I was excited for your video. Hope to see you compare Elipsa vs RM2. Is Elipsa faster and more responsive? Is it worth to buy Elipsa instead of iPad?

Seems like an interesting device, looking forward to your full review. I will say I’m not crazy about the color of the cover.

As a soon to be Supernote A5X owner I’m interested to see what functionality role the Elipsa will best fill.

Completely unrelated, but how is Clown In A Cornfield? I've been thinking about reading it...

Hi, Nice review but how kobo elipsa works with scientific papers and springer scientific books in *.pdf format ?

Question: The Elipsa is able to do some handwritting editing on the eBooks (I think it's a first), Can you save those edited books, or upload them to any cloud, or they're just stuck onto it with the e-reader? If you lose the reader, breaks or updates badly erasing the content inside... you've lost everything?

Appreciate the natural first impressions! Based on your thoughts and what you said out loud, I'm also in the camp of, "Can this device do what I want it to do for note-taking well enough as well as act a a replacement for a reader?"

I, too, have a Forma on the bedside. But do I want a larger one to replace that? And without a Comfortlight Pro?

I use a reMarkable 2 and am happy with it.

I'm just thinking... what else does an Elipsa bring to the table? What kind of killer "oh my gosh, I NEED this!" features does it have that I don't already have with two devices? Because I'd like to smash it into simply using one.

Appreciate it as always, JB.

How would you compare the writing experience? Is it like the Boox Note Air? A glassy feel not like Supernote or RM2?

Does it allow you to write on sideloaded books or only those bought from the Kobo store?

Thx for the vid. Can you speak about the pdf reading experience (scrolling between pages, use hyperlink, zooming ecc. )? Can it handle large pdf files? (>100mb)

Wow, that's huge. I mainly use my Kobo Libra for reading in bed or on the train and be able to just pop it in my small bag. I can't imagine myself reading the Kobo Elipsa in bed or be able take it anywhere with me. You might as well buy an Ipad or a Microsoft Surface Go if you want to write on something for school or University.
