Breast and Chest Lymphatic Drainage Sequence

Breast and Chest Lymphedema is a side effect after radiation and/or surgery. Compression is always a great treatment option (see my post from September 30, 2022 for more treatment ideas!), but Lymphatic Drainage for breast lymphedema is very important because of potential dense tissue, scar tissue, and radiation fibrosis.

When lymph nodes are removed during surgery, damaged through radiation therapy, or genetically someone has a dysfunction of the lymphatic system, then the body may have a hard time draining lymph fluid, which can result in lymphedema.

Here is a sequence we follow for manual lymphatic drainage for breast and chest lymphedema.

Thank you! My new therapist w/Ohio Health, Central Ohio, referred me to your videos. I wish I had found you 10 yrs. ago. I've done well, yet, this treatment will even be better.

Thank you! It’s been 8 years since treatment but i got stung by a yellow jacket and had an allergic reaction which really taxed my lymphatic system and caused swelling in my frankenbooby!

Thank you. I have a lump between my armpit and breast for several years now & it’s tender. I believe it’s a blocked lymph node. I was told it’s not in the breast and “probably musculoskeletal” so it didn’t come up in the mammogram but it doesn’t go away and that area looks inflamed as does my armpit.

Would this treatment be better to have someone do it for you for several minutes daily or weekly?

Thank you! Very hard to get a lymphadema physio in my neck of the woods. What should I do if the swelling is mainly on my back on my affected side?

if you have problems in both breasts, do you always work the fluid down to the groin instead of the opposite armpit?

Is this for healthy breasts, or if you have breast issues?

I have been doing this and now have swollen and sore lymph nodes in my armpits. Is this normal? I just started last week. Should I keep going? Maybe longer?

No, you always start at the terminus superior to the clavicle.
