Our DIY Camper Plans:

Aluminum:
Aluminum Sheets: SAF.com

Miscellaneous:

Trailer Frame:
We used the Harbor Freight 5x8 Ironton trailer frame. We did make some modifications so it would work with out camper design. We added 2” spacers and 15” wheels, and moved the axle back a few inches to account for the added weight in the rear.

Holy cow! Amazing job on that camper. My daughter wants me to make her one. This was a great video to watch the process!

I had plans to this same camper that I got from popular mechanics in the 60s.

I used Popular Mechanics plans from the '60s to build mine. Used a lot of aircraft material to save weight, the foam core floor was sandwiched between corrugated aluminum panels, weighed like 9lbs. I sold it about five years ago to a guy that wouldn't leave me alone about selling it. This vid makes me want another one.

One of the better home-built trailers that I have seen on YT. All the framing members' were pocket screwed glued and tattooed. Actually better than a lot of the factory-built ones.

Very nice Builds
I really like those little Trailers.
One thing I recommend a Battery operated Caulking Gun those work very well and put out consistent Caulk or Glue

That's was great to watch! Do you have a video that shows how the frame is built?

I've built a lot of heavy-duty trailers and some long enclosed but never a teardrop, odd since as a young guy I spent a summer in one panning for gold with my stepdad... maybe that's why? LOL But I have to say that looks so cute and light it would be a breeze to drag around the country now that I'm old and retired. Looks fairly easy and ya don't need a lot of shop for the build. Where's the plans at that you mentioned? by the way it's great your wifes helping and being a partner with you, you're a lucky man. I would like to see how much room you have for sleeping. And don't forget to mention your height. great video.

This is about the most useful and informational video I've ever seen on youtube period. This would actually be pretty close to my dream business! If I wasn't high lol awesome.

I'm actually surprised just how simple this build actually is. This looks like a great project for me next winter. I'd love to have a nice lightweight trailer to pull behind my Ford Fusion hybrid. I have my one ton f350 for my 5th wheel trailer but just getting in the hybrid car with no destination would be great some times. Thanks.

Well, that was fun building your Tear Drop camper. And you mentioned in your comments on what you should have done diffrently before jumping in building one and to pay attention to 6 details which actually very good one. I just want to know if you have the cost of the entire project and the period spent in building it. Thanks
