Imagine doing of the most dangerous, stress inducing activities imaginable, and THEN finding a pile of dead bodies inside the cave, blocking your path.

Why would anyone sane do that to just see a cold, muddy cave? For me that cave would need to be the size of football field, filled with crystals, and maybe contain the Secret Royal Court of the Elves.

Just thinking how this went down. Was some guy like: "Hey guys, how about we hit the Cave of Death this weekend?" - Why is it called the Cave of Death? "Oh no particular reason."

This adventure was dangerous from the start. The guy who wisely listened to his guts saved himself and almost his friends. Unfortunately, they attempted to exit before the tunnel could get drained. RIP.

That last guy had good instincts to chicken out and a sense of self to ignore the peer pressure, even with women there. Too many people get caught up in peer pressure and end up in danger.

Major upside of the friend chickening out. The rescuers were able to remove the bodies. Had the friend joined them he might have died as well. Their bodies might have all been there until the next explorer came along. If that explorer was alone, there’s another body added until there’s nothing but bodies. Imagine how many more people would have died.

I will NEVER understand why people do this

This is truly so sad. What wasn’t mentioned in the video was that these 5 friends actually were very unprepared and didn’t have adequate caving equipment or much experience. It doesn’t matter how short a swim it is if you’re submerging yourself into any body of water it is no longer ordinary dry caving, it is now cave DIVING. And when you’re diving you ALWAYS bring proper diving equipment and tanks. If you don’t have this equipment, turn around a go back. Do not attempt to swim through without gear.

I believe due to their inexperience they couldn’t grasp just how dangerous caving actually is. Even the fact that they went caving at 3AM is an odd choice.

I had heard this story before, but this was the most detailed explanation so far. I had no idea the tunnel continued to a dead end or that it was this complicated
