I'd like to see a discussion between Dr. James Edwards here and Dr. Markus Vinzent on your program. The two seem to be hypothesising mutually exclusive hypotheses of the origin of the canonical gospels.

Interesting topic and good guest. But I think it would be best to call a scholar of Jewish origin who is familiar with the subject. There seem to be two sources, the Ebionites and the Nazarenes. The first would be more interesting, because their connections with pre-Christian sects have been preserved.

In this interview he says that the Hebrew Gospel does not have a birth narrative but i believe in his latest interview he says that it does.

Great guest and another great podcast! Im surprised, in a confused way, that there seems to be a refusal of acknowledgement of known Hebrew versions of Matthew that preserve originality lost in Greek.

Im also surprised at this scholar's handling of questions and presentation in general. Very well spoken. Very articulate in his responses and demonstrates a high level of fairness in what he sees, doesnt see, and what can/cant be said accurately or with certainty at the current time.

The quality of discussion on your channel is increasing at a good pace, and i think its due to your questions as much as it is your guests if not more so. Looking forward to many more.

I wish someone would have asked Dr Edwards about his view of the work on Marcion and Luke's gospel by Markus Vinzent. How would the Hebrew gospel fit into this picture??

I just saw avideo by rabbi trimm about the subject, The gospel according to the hebrews the original jewish gospel, in whch he presents a rather different view that seems convincing. Maybe you could better judge that then me !

Orthodoxy dies hard. And we see that in this interview. A good guest, but nonetheless one whose belief system forces him to have early gospels, and even predates Mark to before the Temple destruction. And like many NT scholars, *there appears to be no room for authorial agency.* That is, James R. Edwards won't allow the author of Matthew to just create parts of his story, and does not let the author(s)/redactors of Luke create his (their) story as they need it.
