Very useful advice, saving this to my watch later which means that I'll probably never see it again

I export it every time for listening it during the day on my phone. So I hear what I should make better coming home.

Tracing steps is the best way to improve mixing for anybody 100%. It's almost like double checking algebra homework, but instead of doing the math in reverse to see if you found the right answer, you hear your mixing decisions in reverse order to judge whether you've made it sound better or not.

Keeping it simple with effective little tips like this as always. Don't ever stop!

I hate doubting myself when creating music and so I keep the mentality of ”make executive desicions that I believe are good no matter the outcome”. You can always make another song and not do the same ”mistake”. It’s better to let the creative juices flowing rather than harnessing them too much and killing the joy of music

I just give both previous versions a listen before I start. Great tip

Great tip. I think we’ve all been there before. Often the changes make the track completely unrecognisable from how it started.

I bounce at the end of every session and leave on my desktop to check before and after.

Expose by mastering the mix is also a good tool for that.🎉

what I like to do is toggle various elements on and off while listening to the full song. if it makes a substantial difference to the song then it's probably important, but if you can't tell the difference before and after then it might be adding extra unnecessary layers.

been doing this for years, especially on studio one that allow you save versions.... when i started doing this back then it had improved every mix, i started to challenge my previous mixes and the out come was unmatched

this is great advice ! I always do it:) I use mp3 though because all the wavs add up on storage 😅

Jeez I f'ked up a track of mine a few days ago.
I created a remake from scratch using the same samples I used in the first v and it turned out to be a banger. 😂

The amount of people saying that is genius is literally terrifying. Who DOESN’T do this? This is like The most standard practice.

Not to take away from the video's value, cause it's a really good idea - WAV isn't pronounced 'whav' 😂 but 'wave'. You're gonna get made fun of more than once of you pronounce it that way.

Isn't the newer version always marginally better due to recency bias?
