I like what he says to the little lamb at the end, "No monsters. Just some poor critters."
It's not only reassuring to the lamb not to be scared, but also that's how he actually feels about the encounter. He truly doesn't see them as monsters, just animals desperate for a meal, but unfortunately, there was no meal for them there

"...We're hungry." I really felt that line near the end; you could hear the pitiful tone. They're not evil, heartless monsters, they're desperate, hungry animals, who just want to feed themselves and their families. They're just trying to survive.

I like how Big Jack went "At least One" implying that he swears he's going to take down one of them at a minimum if they attack, but he absolutely is going to do his best too add onto that number as much as possible if they try him.

Stone cold threat of a pupper who knows he'll die if it comes to a fight but will die hard against them if needed.

That ending was very satisfying. They aren't monsters... Just hungry predators doing what nature designed them to do. Well done to whoever made this.

I really liked this. Big Jack did not treat them as monsters, or even as villains. Just hungry animals, that he feels bad for. But he got a job, and he will protect the sheep.

Mutually assured destruction is the basis for respect. The threat of becoming embroiled in a fight where even if you win, you still lose, is the friction which keeps things civil.

The entire thing was intense. One wrong move or hesitation would have spelled a bad night.

I remember seeing a comic by this person. There was a wolf frozen in snow and sheep were happy but the dog mourned. Sheep were confused, dog answered that the only thing different between him and the wolves was that he had a master who fed him and that's it.

Sad little reminder: wolf packs usually consist of a mated pair and their offspring. Meaning behind the ominous look and intimidating voice was a family member trying to make sure their kin would have something to eat. Great work making them sympathetic without having Jack's convictions ever waver throughout the ordeal.

Jesus christ, I have a Kangal dog from Afghanistan. She is a descendent of the Anatolian Shepherd bloodline, old blood, this literally brought tears to my eyes. She is past her prime, but this is her to a tee! Thank you again!

and based on the next chapter, he wasn't lying when he said "just some poor critters"

this is just like real life, you help where you can but sometimes you CAN'T help. even if it might seem like you can to others. this sheep dog has a lot of sheep, some people would say he could spare one, but he can't, don't get mad at other people when what you should really get mad at is the world. but don't sulk, use that anger to help yourself as much as possible. then when you can help others less fortunate than you.

I absolutely *love* the cold and simple logic to uses to de-escalate this situation.

I'm at my umpteenth time watching this and I'm still amazed by the calmness and inflections in Big Jack's voice. Such good voice acting. Top notch ❤

Love the wolves’ mindset here. When sneaking in fails, they try negotiating with Big Jack for 1 sheep. When negotiation fails, they try to threaten and intimidate Big Jack with their numbers. When intimidation fails, they plead with him and beg for some food. Finally, when pleading fails, they have no choice, but to retreat.
