Both spinach and swiss chard are Very High in oxalates, compounds that bind with minerals such as calcium and magnesium and render them unavailable to the body. Almonds, including almond flour, are also High in oxalates. My nightly agonizing foot cramps were only lessened after removing these from my diet and adding a quality magnesium supplement. Apple cider vinegar in my water also helped.

These leg cramps, well, I've only been getting them relatively recently, say over the last 18 months. But I put it down to my age. I'm 77, male. Sure, I've had a charley horse before, maybe once or twice a year, usually in the back of the thigh. And stretching out my leg for a couple of minutes fixes it, though in the interim the pain is excruciating. Now I wake up at 5 am with leg cramps in both legs from the knees down to the toes maybe once or twice a week, and always after I've had many hours of sleep. One would think that 7 or 8 hours of sleep would relax the body, and I do feel very refreshed and alert if I get a really good night's sleep – except for these dratted leg cramps.

The quickest way to stop leg cramps is yellow mustard, hsnds down! It haven't found anything better or faster! It works between 1 to 3 minutes, so I take a tespoon everyday & it totally stops the ramps & restless legs!

I've been in ketosis for over a year now and the leg cramps keep getting worse! Now I know what to do. Thanks so much for your excellent teaching skills that explain and give us useful information.

06:06 Bone broth: Up until now, apart from the avocado, every recommendation has been fine. These are all foods that I either already eat, or would definitely eat. Bone broth, too, I'm sure – however here in the UK bone broth is completely unavailable in any supermarket. Same with chicken broth that American cooks use all the time. For some reason, these ready-prepared broths have never been a thing here. Now maybe Amazon will have it, or health food shops, although there's not many of the latter here, either.

In the night when I get foot cramps I quickly chew a calcium carbonate antacid and also use aspercreme on the cramping area. The combo works. I keep both on my bed side table.

Dr. Becky, I’ve been following your content for several months, and your information makes the most sense of any diet info I’ve ever seen in 25+ years. In the past decades I’ve been a yo-yo dieter and only trying to lose weight quickly just to gain the same 10 pounds back. This year I’ve been keto most of the time and doing some intermittent fat fasting. I don’t have a ton of weight to lose. Only 25-30 pounds. I’ve lost 15 pounds in 7 months (only 2 pounds per month!) I’m 43, and I haven’t seen these lower numbers on the scale since before my 5th child was born 12 years ago. But the tortoise does win the race and I know I’m going to keep the weight off!! Thank you, Dr. Becky, for your encouraging solid content!!!

The more I watch these videos, the more I realize how healthy I've become. These little tidbits of information about minerals, vitamins, and supplements have informed my decision about what i want to eat and what i want to try. Haven't been a big broccoli eater up to this point, but think im going to incorporate it into my diet along with spinach. Thanks for the info doc

Much appreciated. Your videos offer so much information. You are also very calming (your voice) and full of little tricks in order to make us keep going on. Right now I´ll put my boots on and go salmon, almonds and avocado shopping. This morning the world was white ! The snow started disappearing by noon time, but small snow islands can still be seen. Thank you, until next time.

Having just spent half an hour (at midnight) with my lower legs in a tub of hot water the cramps (from the calf to the toes) have calmed down. I never heard before about "low carb leg cramps." So glad you used that term especially after all I had to eat yesterday was beef!

I’m 54 and am scared to death to stretch while laying in bed, causes severe Charlie horses!! I’ve been drinking Powerade Zeros daily. Can you drink to many drinks like this in a day?? I will start adding more of these foods to see if this helps 😊

1:11 Avocado: There's a problem straightaway, because I absolutely loathe the taste and texture of avocado. For years people have looked at me askance at dinner parties when we've all sat down for the starter and the host, unbeknownst to her (seldom a him), serves avocado in some form or other. I try to be polite, but my eeuw and ugh sounds are a dead giveaway that I'm not keen.

Anyway, onward and upward, let's watch the rest of the video now!
