In this episode of The Reset, The Kitchen's Jason Aspes breaks down GAME TWO of the Julian Arnold/Jessie Irvine vs. Matt Wright/Lucy Kovalova match (JOMBOY STYLE!) from the PPA Tour North Carolina Open, which was quite possibly the GREATEST Pickleball match in history.

The level of play was HIGH and things got UNBELIEVABLY heated between the four players. DRAMA ENSUES.

Matt Wright gave off serious man child energy in this match

I just saw this sport recently for the first time. This is a sport where it can really help people to move more exercise more. We wasted decades putting effort into exhibition games like Tennis.

Great lack of sportsmanship throughout. That's not what makes it exciting.

Why can''t the guy say Lets Go after winning a point? Gotta stay hyped and keep the energy and competitive level up. If the crowd can yell and make noise after each point why can't the player?

I agree! I've never been so amped to watch every second of a match. Arnold is my new favorite player. The manner in which Wright handled the pressure was shameful. Sucks, because I liked Wright but not after that performance. EPIC PICKLEBALL MATCH!!! HOPE TO SEE MORE PICKLEBALL WITH THIS LEVEL OF INTENSITY, fun to watch!!!

I think the guy behind was thinking " what a couple of stooges"

Matt wouldn’t act that way against a physically larger opponent. He acted like a punk.

There's no doubt that Julian is an amazing player but I used to play tounament against very LOUD players like that and trust me it gets really freaking annoying amost to the point you feel like they are humilating you everytime you make an error. I totally understand why Matt acted like that. And I glad he came back and win the game. I think on the second game Julian realized that he was acting a bit too much that's why he was kinda quite down a little. Great game and great videos! Thank you!!!

Contrary to the comments I think Julian is excessive, and Matt Wright put him in his place. They have played against each other before this in a PPA event and it was a similar type of hostile attitude between Wright and Arnold. The rivalry will be epic to watch play out, this is what pickle ball needs! Trash talk makes sports better for the viewer that’s why the NBA, NFL, and MLB are so popular.

That is definitely playing to the opponents weakness - back hand

Julian has always been the first to talk and the first to say “too good” when someone plays a great shot. Ive sat next to him a bunch and he’s always been a great guy

Say whatever you want about Matt Wright but if some guy started yelling every time you made an unforced error, you'd probably find him annoying - regardless of whether he's just "doing it to pump himself up." When someone's pushing your buttons like that you're probably going to act a little differently. If you watch the post-match interview with Matt & Lucy, Matt was gracious and said that Julian played a good game and put on a great show; he acknowledged that it could've easily gone either way

Since they are all close to the net. I belive that if a player hits your body that you should be able to have some recovery option, meaning if the ball hits you in the body (maybe legs, shoulder, face, arm) and bounces into the kitchen zone, that you should be able to return it. When the ball bounces a little more high you want to hit it hard and fast as you can. Since there isn't enogh room and the field is not big like in tennis, also when you take in the fact that the tactics of your opponent could be intentional hitting your body, I think this could be a good rule to consider, at least have that option. Maybe I'm wrong

Arnold was castrated by Wright. Sure you can argue that Arnold's shouting is annoying, but Wright strutted around and gave digs after quieting Arnold down. Less respect for Wright.

lol they don't have fast hands. they should try and play table tennis. pickle ball is an extremely slow sport.
