Bill Superfoot Wallace was basically a single legged Savate fighter. People called his kicks flippy dippy until they got hit by one.

My dad learned Savate when he was in the Navy in Vietnam and let me tell you, he could kick the life out of you when he was younger. Combined with his Judo and boxing skills he was a pretty lethal dude.

I wish Savate gets more appreciation as its own more flowing fighting style. These days is just, as you said, try or die mentality with going full force with arts like Muay Thai and Lethwei. Softer moves and techniques are just as important if you want to make yourself a well rounded striker in my opinion.

Thank you for the video. The late great Savateur Professor Salem Assli always said the philosophy for fighting in Savate is, "I touch you, you don't touch me."

Thanks for the kind words, I’m a Tireur (Savateur) from Belgium. Used to train also in Sanda and Muay Thai for striking arts, but nowadays it’s exclusive La Boxe Française-Savate, La Canne de Combat and Savate Bâton Défense.
Found it a pity that I never had the opportunity to train Yaw-Yan and Lethwei, but that’s life.

The funny part is that the Integrale (leotard) gives a better range of motion and has the less restriction compared to MT trunks or Full-contact trousers.

The force generation with Savate kicks is based on speed instead on power, you could compare it with the force generation of WTF Taekwondo kicks.

You hit the nail on the head: kicking with shoes is a game changer. Plus, in Savate, much focus is put on foot placement, where your feet land after you kick; for it's all about touch and not be touched.

Jean Claude Van Damme did have some Savate training. I saw him in the L.A. area at a promotion for his movie Bloodsport and he verified he trained in it when I asked. I did some Savate training at the Inosanto Academy and can vouch for what you say about the art. It looks strange but is surprisingly effective.

Within the Dan Inosanto circles there's a kickboxing system called STX (Savate-Thai Crosstraining). As the name implies it combines the best elements of Savate with Muay Thai.

Thank you for the video. Professor Nicolas Saignac sent it to a group of Savate practitioners. My wife is a former world vice champion and is taking a group of teens over to fight in the Youth World Championship the summer of 2023. For youth they go controlled contact. She showed it to the group and they really appreciated it. We're a JKD school (Poteet/Inosanto lineage). I've been training Savate since 1986 and it really improved my mobility in Muay Thai when I was fighting. Thanks for the content. Good stuff.

Yes ! Good french kick boxers manage distance and positioning very well. And kicks with the point of the shoe hurt so bad (the shoes are hardened on the point and heel).
Also Savate means shoe I can confirm.
You can say "savater" in popular language to say "to soccer kick someone".

Just check Anissa Meksen former glory world champion and now fighting in one. You can really see the savate influence on her style.

Good analysis. There's a lot of martial artists keep criticizing what they don't know about all too soon. Keep up the good work.

MY FAVORITE! I love savate. There's no gyms near me but it's amazing and I can't wait to train it one day. Great video once again buddy, keep it up 😃

I train/teach HEMA (specifically Bolognese fencing and Spanish common school fencing), another heavily underrated style. Savate very much is sensible to me as a striking art as the ideas of historical fencing mesh well with it. While there is not a Savate school near me I travel from South Florida for seminars and learn online and then test my competency with what I learn as best I can. I've completely fallen in love with Savate and have made it my primary unarmed study.

I was just thinking about Savate and your video came recommended.

I think that the show was called _fight quest._ Anyway, there was an episode on Savate and it gave a very good impression about what it is.

Savate has been the best thing to ever happen to me. I instruct in yoga which helps in the mobility and stamina required to perform some of the kicks. The two go hand in hand for me and I plan on advancing in rank this year to red. I better understand Muay Thai because of it and with my dance background as well I see how to use it. The skill of learning is what keeps me coming back. 💕
