A bicyclist is dead after police say he first crashed into the open door of a car in Queens and was then run over by a box truck.

His parents are now speaking out about the accident in an exclusive interview with Eyewitness News.

It happened just before 3 p.m. Tuesday at 21st Street and 46th Avenue in Long Island City.

Authorities say 45-year-old Aaron Padwee was riding a bicycle northbound on 21st Street when the driver of a parked car opened the door towards the roadway, and the victim struck it.

Aaron was my dad's best friend and work partner, when Dad came home
With the bad news, it was the first time that I saw him cry

People in the city do nothing but fling their doors open all day. Their response upon seeing you is aggravation that you are there, as if you somehow violated them.

Not only has the double-parked door-flinger not been charged with the manslaughter she is responsible for, her identity has been protected by the media, unlike the driver in front of whose truck Aaron was thrown. They both are responsible for the loss of a good person life being taken from him and for the grief of his family.
