Diddy Pole Cats In The Heat!

As is Memorial Day weekend tradition, we hit our favorite stretch of river again to run diddy poles and pulled in 20 catfish! I had a host of friends in my boat over the weekend, including Andy, Curtis and my girlfriend, Nicole.

We chased big Iowa flathead catfish and channel catfish. We boated 20 cats in the scorching heat of the weekend and we also rescued a baby deer. This was our first diddy pole run of 2018. We did boat a nice flatty, caught lots of cats and had a great time on the river.

I would be keeping all legal fish. It keeps really good in freezer bags. Makes up for the times I get skunked. Life’s way of working things out.

Reminded of running bank lines on the Missouri River near St. Joe in the 70’s and came across a fawn. The dogs had been at her legs. We brought her in and had a vet come down with some antibiotics but sadly she didn’t make it. Great videos.

I’m normally an anti diddy pole guy, but I enjoyed your video. Good job on the deer rescue too!

You guys should use a wire leader this year to see what is getting the hooks

Ignore the whiners regarding the music! You did just fine with the music selection, the timing and the volume overlay was perfect in my headphones. I've heard plenty of crappy music played too loud in YouTube videos and this one is not one of them. I really enjoyed this compilation of line checks and wish we had similar weather and fish here in south central Oregon. We have pretty awesome offshore fishing but it's a big deal to hook up the boat and run down to the coast for the six fish limit. These days it's a much better deal to spend two hundred bucks on fish at Costco rather than on gas.

I'm an old Nebraska boy, but living in Arizona for decades now. Man....your vid was so much fun....it brought back memories like crazy! First thing I started doing though early on in the vid was literally start scratching myself all over....I'm not kidding! Oh, those bugs....I remember that so strongly. And love me. I never understood why God would invent a frickkin' tick. Huge tip of the hat to you all for taking great care of that baby deer....she was in some real trouble there. Just curious....not looking to steal your haunts there, but what part of the state were you guys in? Thanks and God Bless. Oh yeah....I subbed. See you again! jbeinarizona

Use steel leaders and a smaller heavy duty steel circle hook on the lines where hooks are missing for alligator snapping turtles. And for gar use nylon rope flayed out with a steel leader and hook and bait in the middle of the flayed out strands of nylon.

You need to make syome snapping turtle traps.... I use cattle panels for them....held together with zip ties and hog rings... Very easy to build. And you can catch more than one turtle.

This look just like the wapsi where my father and i fish. I subbed to the fellow iowan. Love me some cat fishing. We catch and release to grow the monsters.

Can you tell me how you make your poles. And tell.me how deep you put them in the dirt.

Since ya aren’t checking them every 2-3 hours should add swivels so a fish on the line for a long time can spin and it won’t just be twisting your line
