This video shows how to make bank poles ( AKA: Diddy Poles AKA: Ditty Poles ) that I use to catch big catfish on the river. The poles are made from fiberglass rods that are 11/16" diameter x 12' long. I also show my unique rig for easy attachment and detachment of the line. Thanks for watching, sharing, and subscribing!

Squared away. I've watched a bunch of the "make your own Diddy Pole videos" and I like yours the best for simplicity and strength. frj

I've never been fishing, doubt I ever will, but that was still fascinating and very clearly explained :) I learnt something today :)

Thanks for the video! This was great! Just too the point and great detail! Would the same line rig work for jug lining?

Thank you for the video. I was unable to figure out where the spine was on my 3 fiberglass ditty poles but I dont think it will be that big of an issue as I will mostly be on smaller rivers vs the Mississippi River & the Missouri River. I wonder how well & how long wooden ditty poles cut from upstart trees would last?

We have some creeks that have steep banks and I found some fiberglass rods for electrical fence that are about 6 feet in length that work great in that area, just thought I would share with you. The tree stakes work awesome on the Mississippi River

Very good tutorial on bank pole fishing.
I use to work with a guy who fished the Walbash River ( it is the border between IL. and Indiana ) he used the same type fiberglass poles I am sure. He use to sharpen stainless steel hooks at work in his spare time. You didn't mention all the hard work evolved, after making the poles :-)

We make them out of 1/2" pvc, they work just as well an are a Hell of a lot cheaper to build

I just made my first set by watching this video! One question though. How long should each bank pole line be? Before I start measuring and cutting line. Thanks in advance

Do you have any problems with the fiberglass weathering in the sun, or getting it in your hands?

Anyone think you could get by with a smaller diameter rod, maybe 1/2" ? Solid fiberglass rods are pretty strong.

Two more questions for you Phil...First, do you ever have any trouble with those hog rigs when catching big ones? Second, I'm getting some 1/2" poles that don't have points. How do you suppose I could sharpen mine, maybe with a sander???

so what is exact method of finding the load limits for rods of different diameters?

:Large nbet I'LL say! Mercy what a whale. My son is the fisherman of the family. I sometimes think he can catch something beside a head cold off a damp wash rag.
Thanks Phil! Good one and NICE Kitty!
