The only time Nirvana played this live was at the Aragon Ballroom, Chicago, IL 10/23/93. Dave announces "this is our last song, it's called All Apologies" and then Kurt thinks otherwise and launches into this. It's so much more powerful, lyrically, sonically and knowing it was being heard for the first time is absolutely stunning. The acoustic version is also beautifully haunting.

P.S. Courtney "had no right" playing that song

When the drummer tries to sing and wins Grammys and sells 30 million records and is millions of people's favorite band leader of all time and has achieved success that is unfathomable, in fame and riches and legacy and influence & longevity we absolutely love him.

Also, Dave did sing on Nevermind and In Utero. So he was never just the drummer.

He is just an all-around great musician since before the days of Scream.

kurt was an enigma. still is. this song was one of the deepest looks into his mind we have outside of interviews and his journals.

To hear Courtney sing HER "version" of this song, makes me so angry to the point of feeling ill. The lyrics "nothing really bothers her, she just wants to love herself" comes to mind. The bone picking by Courtney is criminal.

he was at his writing peak he was getting better as a song writer its sad to think the songs we would have had if kurt was still alive.

Remember hearing the bootlegged recording of the live version of You Know You're Right (everyone called it On a Mountain then) before the studio version was released and being absolutely blown away. Would have loved to have heard a studio version of Do Re Mi, just really tragic and such a shame.

This is one of those very few songs i remember exactly where i was when i first heard it on the radio. At the time it really felt like it came out of nowhere.

The fact that Courtney changed lyrics and performed the song originally titled “you have no right” is crazy…

I remember when I first heard this song back early 2000s on a local fm station. I said wow finally a band that sounds like nirvana.

In September of 02 my local rock station played the leak (before cease an desist im sure) . I was driving home from work for the first time on my own. I put on the radio and i hear the song I was waiting for for years. It was remarkable. And to hear that song for the first time after waiting for it for years while experiencing the independence of driving by myself for the first time was incredible. I was such a huge Nirvana fan (still am) and that moment will never leave me.

Grohl’s viewpoint that he sounded like kurt’s wailing is heartbreaking

I love this song so much. I was a much bigger fan of In Utero than Nevermind and this song seemed like a great bridge between the sound of both albums.

I'll never forget the day YKYR released. Rob, the DJ said they had it and wouldn't hold it back any longer. He played it, I screamed, fell to the floor, cried, ...then he played it again. I called my friend down the street, and we were both screaming. I listened as the DJ played it a third time, then ran to my friend's house where we listened together as the radio continued to play the song 10 times in a row.
It was beautiful. Kurt is beautiful.

The grungiest grunge song I've ever heard. Kurt was an absolute master at his craft. He also knew the sounds he wanted, which requires good musical understanding, which a lot of people dont give him credit
