There are more critically ill children in Ontario than ICU beds.

The last time the Ontario government published ICU bed usage data was back on June 10 of this year. On that date there were a total of 2, 343 ICU beds in the province, of which 647 were sitting EMPTY.

On May 1, 2021, the date on which COVID patients in ICUs reached the maximum, there were 2, 342 ICU beds in the province, of which 889 were used by COVID patients (38.0%); 1, 085 were used by non-COVID patients (46.3%); and 368 beds were EMPTY (15.7%).
