No, it is Not around £185 a week for many of us, Andy! Those of us who paid in the most [44 years to qualify for full pension, against just 30 years as it is now], receive only around £149!! It is in recent years that the pension rate was increased - but only for those who are NEWLY qualified. So, the situation is worse for us older pensioners than is portrayed even by your good self, and we still do not qualify as a couple for Pension Credit. Please keep up the good work that you do in your illuminating videos. They are very much appreciated.

From what I've noticed with the state pension, if you receive a pension of less than £182.60 per week and are not receiving any private pensions etc, then pension credit will top up your to pension £182.60...nowhere near the £279 a week I read. How do they come up with £279 per week?

My pension is crap, it covers rent and council tax and that`s it. I have to do a part time job for everything else and then it`s a struggle. If there is a surplus why are they so keen for us to die and not collect?

Anyone who just has the old state pension, savings less than £16, 000 and no other income
can claim pension credit, if they are eligable then they can get help with council tax and water.
But as said below, unless you have the new state pension which is £185 a week, then the old
state pension is much lower.
I receive the New state pension, but without my partime job i would realy struggle to survive,
at 68 i am fearing the day when i am no longer fit enough to retire on only my state pension.
From the 10th April my pension will increase to £203 a week / £815 a month, my rent is £595
that leaves £220 to pay the council tax, water, gas, electricity and food, without my job i would
starve to death!

It's all means tested by the way so if you've got more then 16k in the bank you won't qualify, then the benifit increases the less you have but the main things is once your on pension credit or soon to become universal credit, you'll be exempt from council tax.

There`s Pension Credit and Pension Gaurantee Credit which has more benefits. Its means tested.

I don’t think you can have as much savings limit allowance in your bank as you can on ordinary state pension . Also I believe if you as a single person get the full state pension of about £185 per week, you can’t get pension credit, if you own your own home & don’t pay any rent . Also if you have a second pension that only pays a few quid, it could just take you over the threshold for claiming any pension credit, which I also believe comes under the dreaded universal credit rules, which is a living nightmare to be avoided for the sake of a few extra bob . Best to just draw your state pension & get a nice little earner going if you are able, in order to supplement any dwindling back up stash .

You have to bare your soul to get Pension Credit, that's probably why a lot of pensioners don't claim it!!

The New State Pension is £185 weekly and if you receive that, you won't be entitled to pension credit.
You need to be on old state pension to qualify.

I’m £2.50 over the limit for pension credit. We get nothing, not a penny in help. Glasses Dentist etc we have to pay for, all out of my £185.00, can’t wait to die.

If you delay taking state pension a few weeks or months. You can get an extra 1 or 2% in pension.

I have just done this see what happens.
