DIY Electric Skateboard Fire

Not sure what the proper way to react to this kind of thing is. I realize being anywhere near it while it was on fire was stupid and do not condone that as safe behavior.

Pre-Fire Board Specs:
Stormcore 60D ESC
2x 6384 ~5000w motors
12S3P Molicel P42a Battery
Boundmotor Carbon fiber deck
7" Evolve Tires
Flipsky 14" DKP Trucks
Flipsky VX2 remote

Post-Fire Board Specs:
Smells bad

Good job staying calm. Sorry about your board. I had one catch fire also. Was fortunate to separate the battery from the board quick and didn't lose the board. Hope you can rebuild!

To think that lobbyists go around preaching the dangers of what will happen if you dare to replace your phone battery. Here's more than 100 times as much lithium burning up, sure its a bad time but compared to 5$ worth of gasoline it's nothing. And you can take it to the bank that you aren't going to see those lobbyists saying we need to ban gasoline or keep it in the hands of "trained professionals" Good for you for building an awesome board and I hope you get it up and going again. You are building a small version of the future of transportation. 👍

Hey mate.. i happened to order an Eovan deck which is awfully similar to yours from boundmotor. I'm currently doing a DIY and i just saw your vid. Haven't put the battery inside the enclosure yet but this video has gotten me really terrified. I think what other have said about the conductivity is correct, carbon fiber is very conductive, but what's the issue here? Not enough insulation in your battery from your battery builder? On the bms? On the top lid only? And what kind of measures would you take to prevent this? Wrap the battery and bms and ESC in thin foam? Maybe the top lid? Have you had yours wrapped already?

Are these cells durable and lasting??
Will they work properly in a 350cell 20s15 pack for 10kw continuous ??
We were planning to use these cell. Should we switch to other...??

Believe or not but It was cause by carbon fiber deck.

The Carbon fiber Must of shorted It out If it started smoking up after you stood On it...

For electrical fire in an enclosure you can just use CO2 type extinguisher instead of the dry powder. The dry powder is nasty and all your components would be good for nothing afterwards.

What about metroboardX? It's a 10S5P in a supertight carbon fiber case.

Looks like a shorted wire. Probably BMS.
