Israeli strike resulting in death of Australian aid worker 'condemned' by Australian government

Home Affairs and Immigration Minister Tony Burke says the government “condemns” the Israeli airstrikes which caused the killing of Australian aid worker Zomi Frankcom in Gaza.

Mr Burke's comments come after former Defence chief Mark Binskin’s independent review into an Israeli missile strike that killed Ms Frankcom was released.

The report found the death of Zomi Frankcom and other aid workers was the result of serious errors by the Israeli Defence Force.

“There are obligations under international humanitarian law to protect civilians and to protect the distribution of aid and aid workers,” Mr Burke told Sky News Australia.

“Plainly that didn’t happen, we condemn the strikes that caused the killing of Zomi Frankcom.”

Knowing that the war zone situation poses an extremely high risk to life, why were these staff sent to work there? The officials who sent these people should be condemned.

Why was the Australian there? Who sent him there? He didn’t have, I am an Australian written on his T shirt! He looked just like everybody else for whomever to shoot at. Everyone there is in the same boat. This is a tragedy!

Good luck with bringing them in. Ever wonder why Egypt has a huge wall not allowing them in? Most mid East countries won’t allow them in because there’s a reason. So good luck.

If you're in a War Zone, well intentioned or not, you run the risk of injury and death.

Totally feel bad for Australia having a minister like this, so clear full of lies, not answering any of the question…

Blame Hamas. Oct. 7th was the catalyst...

Anytime you enter a war zone as an aid worker you have to know the risk. Military cannot be held hand cuffed in their plans based on gathered intelligence concerning timely strikes on targets. If you are in a strike zone that’s a choice you made. R.I.P.
