Striped Silver Dollar: Amazing Fish

Hello everyone, todays amazing fish is the Striped Silver Dollar (Metynnis Fasciatus). Most pet stores will classify this fish and other silver dollars as a oddball fish, because of their unique shape! These fish are awesome in the aquarium!

In my experience this particular fish can live a long time. Most websites I've seen say that they have a lifespan of 10 plus years. I bought two at the time about the size of a quarter each. The female lived for 18 years. The male is currently still alive doing well and a few months ago I have had him now for 24 years. I bought them in June of 1996 and it is currently October of 2020.

I love them. I originally planned to get a school for my south american tank but then I decided I wanted a few plants. I have kept the common metynnis argenteus though and they were great fun to watch.

Nice video. I have a school of 8 in my 125. Grew them up since they were quarter size. Now they are 2.2-3 inches. Awesome fish but now my other fish (extra large Severum, large Frontosa and Uaru, King Kong blood parrot, and juvenile severums) are super scared of me and always hiding, especially when I’m in front of the tank. You have any suggestions on how to bring them out? I watched your video on scared fish. I’m thinking its not a good setup for the fish and am debating on taking either the silver dollars out or the scared fish. You know how I can get the scared fish out again and not so scared of me. Shts getting so annoying I’m about to give away my fish bc im just not happy with what’s going on. When I’m in front of the tank silver dollars are in front but low and all the other fish hide in the back. So annoying. When I feed they all come out except for my large Frontosa who stays in a rock cave.

IFG they actually stay pretty small! 6 inches max! Yeah they are around $30+ in H town too so too rich for my blood lol!
