My J Crew Penny Loafers was damaged when I got stuck in heavy rain and had to tread water. The sole completely detached after I got home and I just tucked it away until I could restore it or fix it.

This video is focused on fixing it and I have another video of my mini-restore of the rest of the shoe.

Hope you enjoyed this video. Please don't forget to subscribe!

Neat job! I like the clamping tool you made, it certainly did the trick

Unfortunately most shoes nowadays are junk. The answer to gluing shoes like this is to prime the rubber/plastic materials (in this case the sole) first. There are specialty products for this, but they are not necessary. An effective way to do it is with a thin layer of super glue (cyanoacrylate) on the contact surface. Once the super glue is dry you can then use contact cement. Contact cement will not stick to the material itself, but will bond with the super glue layer and will hold tight. No need to prime leather, just plastic type materials.
