So many questions..

1. Is the engine waterproof now? Not submersible, but can it at least withstand being rinsed with water?
2. Spare parts? Can I get hold of the simplest spare parts such as bearings, gears, axles etc. or does the whole motor still have to be replaced for simpler faults? It is madness from a sustainability perspective that you have to discard a broken engine with simpler faults!
3. Can it share power information with ANT or BT? It's crazy that I have to buy a power meter for a bike that has it in the motor because Bosch refuses to share the information with the above protocols.
4. Can GEN5, like Shimano, be connected to external units, e.g. Garmin to share information?
5. Can devices such as Varia connect to the GEN5 system so I don't have to have an extra bike computer to get the information from the radar?

I hope it has improved in at least ONE area..

Love that you covered the logo on the DJI's mic!

So it was all about the power when they were on top. Now that they are not it's all about balance and efficiency. Got it.

Nice updates, but it looks more like a “facelift” rather than a new gen.

A new gen should also introduce a standard mounting interface for all ebikes, and they’re so close to a solution with their two bolts interface

Man I’m so sick of the negative comments in these videos. People are opinionated and divisive. It’s not a massive upgrade, sure. But it’s progress. There’s no use comparing the DJI motor that might sell 10, 000 bikes in the US only, compared to the hundreds of thousands of Bosch motors already out there globally. Bosch knows what they’re capable of, and knows what they want to achieve. They’re not trying to beat irrelevant competition. They’re trying to incrementally update their motors. Let’s just be happy there’s any progress in the ebike world at all.

We will only see a significant upgrade from Bosch and other manufacturers with solid state batteries that have twice the energy density at half of the weight. I have two R&M superchargers, both have 10, 000+ miles cycling across the United States. One has a gen 3 motor which is significantly larger than gen 4. A big difference is also the resistance of the gen 4 that is less notable when you run of out of electricity. It happens. Both motors are fine and the noise is nihil. Mine don't rattle. The rattle issue is more marketing talk than anything else. What counts is reliability and efficiency and Bosch doesn't disappoint. Any e-bike with a Bosch motor is a good e-bike in my opinion. I don't care that it is a closed system, but would hate to see Bosch solid state batteries in the future that will not work with legacy systems. For now, I bring a spare 625 wh battery for 65+ mile rides as I like to bike in Tour mode.

It's not a huge update it's minor. DJI caught Bosch completely pants down. They thought they had the best motor and would just iterate it but DJI came out with something many steps better. Sound, weight neither is a real difference. New sensors who cares the old one already had a great pedaling feel.

Am I missing something here? People want a silent motor but a noisy as hell free hub? Can someone explain?

Videos up for less than an hour and already the hot takes about the torque and power specs not meeting DJI are already rolling in!

My Gen 4 certainly doesn't sound like that rattle i don't have any noise that way just the nice low motor whine when going but its near new 25mile on the 2024 Cube stereo action team that would worry me if i started to hear a rattle like that on my gen 4

All well and good but.. you only showed the sound when the motor was not engaged. Pedal it uphill see if it's quiet then. Without music over the sound

DJI are going to seriously kick some butt in this market place.

I have 3500km of terain on gen4 and I never realized there was a rattle.

Most important think about eebs. Are they more waterproof and if they providing spare parts for engine?

So they made it incrementally quieter, ruined backward compatability, and did nothing to upgrade performance? 😂

Hey Rob, do you know if they've improved waterproofing?

The imu is a smart way to defeat derestriction. That will be practically impossible to defeat.

Is it worth updating, if you own the last generation model Rob? The noise doesn't bother me.

Bosch design is the most highly rated systems for reliability and safety. If you want to talk specs only then they won't win but specs are not everything as discussed here. From the owner of ebike motor repair centre his choice of motors is Bosch.
