Waylon wrote that song the night he got arrested. He did not ask for those drugs, they were sent to him as an apology and to gain favor. Sove favor. It cost him over 70 thousand dollars in lawyers fees to get clear of it.

In was so cool hearing that album for the first time. Track one, I've Always Been Crazy, fades out and, Outlaw Bit fades in seamlessly. It was brilliant. Other tracks on that album included a soulful ballad version of Cash's I'll Walk The Line, and a remix of Buddy Holly hits medley recorded with the Crickets several years earlier but not released until this album. Later, on the re-release of the, This Time, album on cd, they included the original mix of the Buddy Holly medley.

This album is in my top five favorite Waylon albums for many reasons, but if you were to ask me (and you didn't 🤠) to pick a Waylon album that you should listen to in its entirety, this one would be number two on the list. Number one on my list for you would be the What Goes Around, Comes Around album because it has a R&B vibe I think you might appreciate.

Arguably, he's one of the best guitar players also

You need to read his son Terry Jennings book, it’s called Tales of My Outlaw dad. Terry is Waylon’s oldest son and he used to work for his dad on the road crew. It’s a great read of Waylon from his point of view. Terry passed away around 5 years ago. RIP.

One of my top five Waylon songs of all time (from one of my top two Waylon albums).

Waylon kicked drugs for good cold turkey in 1984 after he realized what his habit ($1500 a day at the end) was doing to his family and his career. His good friend Robert Duvall had asked him to produce an album he wanted to do and Waylon had to turn him down because, in his words, "I was too far down in the drugs".

He rented a house in the Arizona desert and, with Jessi by his side, kicked the sh*t cold in one very unpleasant month.

For all his self admitted faults, Waylon was a stand up dude. He and Johnny Cash saved George Jones financially (without Jones' knowledge) when the Possum went bankrupt in the late 70s, and when Waylon himself went broke in the early 80s (due to his drug habit and the legion of "hangers on" who were getting paid for doing nothing, he didn't screw his creditors, he doubled down, cut expenses, increased his tour dates and paid back every penny he owed.

Thank you for this reaction. This is also my favorite Waylon song. Also, if I remember correctly about the story....Richey Albright won the 'wet baggie' award from High Times magazine for flushing the evidence. LOL

PJ, a real treat for you is a live clip of - The Highwaymen - Are You Sure Hank Done It This Way
You get to see masters, and Waylon’s picking. These concerts were magical. Not only Highwaymen songs, but each individual ‘s hits.

Incredible! What are the odds that you would do a reaction to yet ANOTHER of my favorite Waylon songs?? Truth be told, the odds are pretty damned good. I'll go out on a limb here and say there's a large chance your next reaction will be another of my favorites. I thank you for what you do, my friend.

Love this song. Another of his songs that is a fun one even though he didn't' write it is "Clyde".

Knew you’d enjoy the backstory! Just take a minute to think…We had Waylon, Willie, Hank Jr and Merle writing us songs at the same time. We’ll never get this back.
