I just want to encourage you that YOU CAN DO THIS. I also had many, many unread books and constant library hauls (though those are easy to return) until it got too overwhelming. I have read down or decluttered until I felt my TBR pile was manageable in a ~timely~ manner (so my excitement doesn't fade). Now I limit myself to having 12 bought books unread on my shelf. If I want to buy one, I have to read at least one first to "make room". Because although I could squeeze more books into my house, this is much more mentally comfortable for me. - Heidi

All my books are packed away in a storage unit because I'm moving soon so watching book organization is very soothing right now^^ I feel like you have enough books to do double rainbow shelves, split between read and tbr. Having tbr separate definitely helps reduce the mental block of forgetting you have a book and never reading it 😅

In my new house, the goal will be to get a tbr of ten. I almost exclusively read from the library, so physical books hang around too long. My new house will have a dedicated library though so without a tbr the shelves may be very empty....

Yep that's still minimalism. It's a struggle.

But related, I'm reading "the Afrominimalists guide to living with less" which is all about customizing minimalism and ignoring "the aesthetic"

Next year my goal is to focus on the books I already have on my bookshelves! I tend to unhaul books as I read them if they aren't favourites. I am expecting baby #4 at the end of January, so I need to buy more diapers and fewer books lol.
And like you said, you can always use the library, or I figure if I really want it, I can buy the book when I am ready to read it, instead of spending the money now and having it sit on my shelves for years.

I have the eternal goal of obliterating my TBR and having read and loved every book I own except for a pile of recently bought books to read. It's been a long journey and I go back and forward in progress but seeing other people do unhaul journeys like this always inspires me! I'm proud of you and it's okay if you find it difficult because it does get easier and you get harsher each time you do it. If I'm not sure I always try to read the first 20 or so pages and if I don't get immediately hooked by the book I let it go because I've refined my tastes so well these days and I trust myself to know early on of it's a book for me or not. I also consider myself a minimalist of sorts but have a lot of books, but I've curated a collection of books I adore and they fit into their allocated place... it's just all the TBR books that are still a problem for me.

I keep my books low by giving them as gifts really often. When there’s a gift giving occasion I try to force myself to pick something off my shelf. I’ll sometimes buy someone a gift and give them a book in addition, -and then they don’t feel like they have to like the book, or if they know it’s not new it’s not weird cause they got something else. Sometimes we’re surprised by how much they love a book. And sometimes they have to unhaul it. And that’s okay.

I decluttered my bookshelf about three years ago and haven’t thought about any of the books except one which i may repurchase. I think i have gotten rid of about 75% of the books i owned. It actually felt really good and i felt so much lighter. 🎃

the thing that work for me for my Tbr for the month is pick a new read, next book in series(or first book in the series), old book, and sub books. this give the chance to see if i really going to enjoy these books and once i get into 100 pages i know for sure what to do if i want to keep going or go into my unhaul book

I loved dc icons when I read them. So I tried that black widow book… dnf. But I enjoyed the black panther book. If your looking for a good super hero book try shuri by nic stone. It’s a series and the last book is coming out in January I think.

With song of blood and stone, It was originally shef publish by the author but then she got picked up by a publisher so they have to do a rebrand cover and everything. Also The author added more stuff to the newer edition

i think next year my big goal is to not have a Tbr and just read new books when i get them. Now that im getting a reading planner it will be better. PS love The Last Magicans series

Thinking about my "rationally thrifted" haul with pretty covers (now having learned more about are problematic). Do I want to keep them as a learning curve to see how the genre evolved, or do they need to be purged? Undecided 🎃

I have lots of un read books that I own. Will I ever get to them, hopefully. I am also a big time user of the library. I like getting new releases so I can see if I like a book or not and if I do then I might buy it. I know there were times when I could not finish a library book on time or I get in the middle and I am like me love and me want to have. That was the case for Good Girl's Guide to Murder and The Inertance Game.
