I use exposure compensation all the time and I think it is a fantastic tool...you just need to know how it works to get the best out of it.

There a photographer that loves using Aperture Priority, I didn't know this is how you compensate the exposure with semi-auto. I only knew that you can set the min and max for the shutter speed and iso etc. Really helpful!!

I really do love your explanations, Mike, wonderfully simple to comprehend and accurate as always. How you don't have even more followers is beyond me!

For video I work in Manual mode, controlling my shutter angle, depending on the look I am after and what I am capturing, so use a variable ND for controlling my exposure then, but otherwise exposure compensation is the perfect way to quickly expose an image for how you want in the camera, rather than fixing things in post-production.

As always, you do a great job explaining these functions. Now, I just need you to remind me to zero it out before I take my next shot so I don't spend a moment trying to figure out why it is dark or bright. If you could do that, it would help out greatly. Hope all is going great in Thailand.

Too many useful videos. Can't resist subscribing :) I have a question regarding exposure compensation combined with exposure bracketing. Let's say I set up the Sony A7III with the exposure compensation dial to get the exposure I want (+1EV), but also decide to set it in bracketing mode (e.g BRK C 1.0 EV 3), will the camera start bracketing from my compensated setting or will that setting be ignored when taking the 3 shots? Will I end up with 3 shots: -1EV/0EV/1EV or will it be 0EV/+1EV/+2EV?

Thorough content, Mike! Consise effort to speak to different camera brands. (Agree w/comment below that once set, it’s easy to forget to reset EC later.) I use EC frequently — wish Sony would include gauge display in LCD as well as EVF. Thought EC had to do with swimsuits, or else “workman’s comp”.😁 Wall photo gone, but no replacement yet.
