Is Prince Of Persia REALLY That Good?!

With our first Prince Of Persia game in over a decade arriving shortly, I wanted to run through the Sands Of Time trilogy. As I've said before, early 2000s Ubisoft was built different!

Warrior Within was insane... brought in weapon durability, the Sand Wraith, Traveling between the island's past and present, the Dahaka chases, most people did not even finish the game properly cause you needed the secondary water sword to kill the Dahaka.

I didn’t play them that much, but Prince of Persia is one of those legendary series that deserves to get talked about. I’m very happy that it’s coming back

The combat system in Prince of Persia: Warrior Within is absolutely insane for a game released in 2004. Even today, no other game has come close to matching that style and fluidity. The way the combos, counterattacks, and acrobatics all blend together — it's just on another level. It was way ahead of its time, and honestly, it still holds up better than most modern games.

The PERFECT mix of puzzle and action, with an outstanding artstyle and level design... Back when games were made with passion.

Hope Lost Crown helps thrust Prince of Persia back into the spotlight. Sands of Time a landmark game and will always be a special one to revisit.

I don't care what anyone says, Warrior Within is not only my favorite Prince of Persia game but Ubisoft game overall. Yeah the story is dark and brooding, zero Arabian nights vibes, and it's peak early 2000's edge, but the gameplay still holds up perfectly and the soundtrack by Stuart Chatwood (who went on to compose music for Darkest Dungeon!) is glorious, all bangers.

People often argue which Assassin's Creed game has Ubisoft's best combat or parkour, but to be honest, that franchise has never come close to how fun and fluid Warrior Within feels to play.

Now if you'll excuse me, it's time for my yearly replay of this masterpiece.

I am the architect of my own destruction. Is my favorite POP quote and the more I have grown up the more I have realized that every decision I have ever made good or bad has led me to where I am, as a consequence I am more responsible and take responsibility of my decision and not blame others for it. I am the architect of my own (fate).

I remember always seeing this franchise in gaming magazines and game culture in general in 2000s. Never played but always looked cool

One of my favorite franchises of all time and Ubisoft really fumbled it so hard for almost 2 decades

People forget Prince of Persia was a series before Sands of Time and the new game is going back to the roots but making it 1000x better

There is a specific reason this Game has so much focus on platforming and why there is a 2D Game coming out now 😉
Prince of Persia originally released in 1989 on Apple II and later in DOS PC.
I actually played it back in the 90‘s.
That’s the single reason a 2D Game makes so much sense and I love it!

Sands of Time remake sounds good but Warrior Within remake is next level thing! Just imagine the Dahaka chases in modern gaming visuals!

The Sands of Time will forever remain one of my favorite games. The sequels were ok, but lacked he magic of Sands of Time. I also loved the 2008 reboot

The Two Thrones was also my introduction to the series! I was like 6 or 7 when I first got it. The giant boss in the colosseum was where it was starting to get a little too spooky for me 😰

I completed the HD Trilogy on my PS3 last year, and I swear, I enjoyed them more than Assassin's Creed games. PoP is definitely in my Top 10 game franchises of all time. I'm 100% gonna play The Lost Crown, I like the metroidvania style.

The sands of time does have a jump button though. Its context sensitive. Gotta use the X button near a ledge to jump

I still replay Sands Of Time at least once every few years. The writing and tone are just fantastic, and while combat got deeper in the sequels, I actually prefer the first game's clever use of the Dagger of Time to "finish" opponents, as it added a tactical timing element that Warrior Within and Two Thrones unfortunately did away with. The game as a whole still holds up perfectly as a standalone story, too.

Lost Crown looks a lot like the Strider reboot in 2014, which is woefully underrated among Metroidvanias and 2.5D games in general. I'm excited to see how it turns out, though I'll try the demo before I decide on buying the full game.

Rival Sword/Two Thrones is my personal favourite. Great boss battles and great level designs.
