The New Testament But Its Gnostic
Показать описание
So we come to the end of our series on the Gnostic Bible. Like the previous entries I have taken texts from what were various sects and made them into one story following the storyline in the gospels.
So the texts used are
The 4 canonical Gospels
The Mandaean Book of John
The Revelation of Dositheus
First Apocalypse of James
The Gospel of Judas
The Gospel of Mary
The Gospel of Philip (Mostly for its subtle jabs at the Trinity)
The Coptic Apocalypse of Paul
The Acts of the Apostles
And the Acts of Peter and Paul
Also a note on the characterization of the apostles. Generally most Gnostic sects viewed Peter in a negative light (usually depicting him as dumb or malevolent) and while I did try to fit some of the more positive gnostic texts about Peter in the video, I thought it would be more in line (funnier) if Peter was portrayed negatively. As for Paul and Simon Magus being the same person, it’s a theory that was first proposed by scholar FC Baur in the 19th century and has only been shown to be more likely after the discovery at Nag Hammadi, so I decided to combine the two here (unsurprisingly it fits perfectly).
Since the Gnostics did not have any texts pertaining to the ultimate fate of the apostles, I decided to use the acts of Peter and Paul as an ending, but with a twist that at first I thought was original, but as it turns out several gnostic sympathetic authors concluded was the “true” end of Peter and Simon’s magic duel, which I find interesting.
