You don't need any flooring to plant seeds. It just looks nice

To copy what most are saying, you can plant and grow seeds on natural flooring (though it does feel like it grows slower.) As for attaining seeds, I have had a decent amount of luck getting random seeds from killing various plant monsters, and have gotten seeds from chests in bandit camps. Certainly good to know that seeds of specific crops show up in the farms.

To any future vampires who find this, here's some updates:
-by default (or some castle tier, idk), you can craft farm plots. These require either no ground covered, or Polora's grass plots.
-Polora also adds garden pots to grow more compact plots that can be put indoors, as well as a large plot that can support trees.
-Merchants sell seeds based on their region.

Demone i know that if you have enough silver coin you can buy specific seed from the merchant Depending on the region each merchant sell 2 different kind of seed i know the 1 from the dock sells lotus and ghost shroom seed

You can plant seeds without the grass floor, too

Just a heads up....You can get seeds from your own crops, at least some of them. Just got a sunflower and snowflower seed from my own plants. It's a low(really low) chance to get a seed, and I'm going to guess the percentage is different for each plant type, but it's there!

I was able to plant the seeds before getting the garden tile. Idk why you would need it. Just plant them outside where there already was grass.

Also, yes, you can get seeds from your own crops. I managed to get two bloodrose seeds, Not sure if worker's blood proc a second seed. I read online that worker's blood Rounds UP to the next number, netting double seeds.

Vendors! Sell seed in 1.0, visit them frequently, money is only worth books and seeds. You ll get the rest later!

You DO get seeds from your planted crops.
Dropchance is just so low that you shouldn't look for your 5 blood roses to give you seeds but actively get them outside and just be happy if you get some during harvest in your base.
I kinda ran out of space for some of my flowers already and I keep stacking up more and more seeds back home as I harvest but it's not a fast process by any means.

Ran into that scarecrow once. Didn't realize it was alive until it slapped me back. Nearly killed me before I killed it. It's faster than you'd think.

You can buy Highland Lotus seeds and Ghost Fungus seeds from a merchant who spawns within the Slums quarter of the city in Silverlight Hills. They cost 200 silver each.

You can get seeds from the mantraps, and possibly the lv35 treants from my experience.

Those trents that pop from the ground drop plenty of seeds. Just remember where they spawn and then farm them.
