AncestryDNA:

AncestryDNA is a cutting edge DNA testing service that utilizes some of the latest autosomal testing technology to revolutionize the way you discover your family history. This service combines advanced DNA science with the world's largest online family history resource to predict your genetic ethnicity and help you find new family connections. It maps ethnicity going back multiple generations and provides insight into such possibilities as: what region of Europe are my ancestors from, or am I likely to have East Asian heritage? AncestryDNA can also help identify relationships with unknown relatives through a dynamic list of DNA matches.

23andMe:

23andMe offers a trove of information about your genetics and deeper ancestry. This top DNA testing service also provides checks for genetic health risks and your carrier status for many conditions.
Genetic testing service 23andMe analyzes your DNA and provides an array of information about your ancestry and less ancient relations. 23andMe is second only to AncestryDNA in its collected DNA volume. In fact, the two services use similar DNA collection kits for roughly the same price. That said, 23andMe gives you much more detail about your ancestry by diving into your maternal and paternal lines; it even reports on how much Neanderthal DNA exists in your genetic makeup. Furthermore, it offers a wealth of optional DNA-based health tests. For its depth of reporting, 23andMe is our Editors' Choice for DNA testing kits.

Germanic Europe according to ancestrydna is Germany maybe Central Europe, but actually it means the Germanic tribes of historic Northwestern Europe, which includes France, Switzerland, Austria, the Netherlands and Germany.

Look at the Sub-Saharan Africa percentages: 78.9% vs. 80%. So overall they detected the same amount of SS African. Keep in mind they have different reference population database so they're not going to be exactly the same. The people 23andMe have tested as reference population are not necessarily the same people AncestryDNA has tested. Also the individual region breakdowns will differ because it depends on how they account for regions. The names they give can be misleading. For instance, "Nigeria" for AncestryDNA covers both Nigeria and Central African Republic and for 23andMe it's just Nigeria alone. But at the same time AncestryDNA has Central African Republic also in the Cameroon, Congo and W. Bantu category. So it's double dipping.

African Hunter-Gatherer are Pygmies and San grouped together. They should not be together because they are completely different race of people, but they probably have so few samples they don't bother separating them. These people are either in the middle of the jungle or out in the middle of a Savannah living off the land. Add in the language barriers and it's likely difficult to get samples from them.

You have 17.3% vs 16% for European. Also very close. So you have about the same amount of European. Any breakdown beyond that is speculative. Use 23andMe's confidence meter. The default is 50% Confidence. When you go to 90% Confidence a lot of stuff gets rolled into "Broadly X". Unassigned means they don't know what it is yet. With each annual update my unassigned has decreased.

Finally, Ancestry does not do decimal percentages. So you could be 1.4% Philippines, but they kind of round everything so it comes off as 1%. And they ignore trace regions. So the overall 100% is 100% of the stuff they decide to include. In that sense Ancestry is less accurate.

What were your paternal and maternal haplotypes on 23andMe?

Maybe it's better to look at it this way, What are the percentages per continent? Do those match up better? The amount of African for each test. The amount of European, etc. for each test against the other test? Also, I'm curious, do your "Genetic Communities" for Ancestry DNA match equal to your "Recent Ancestor Locations" for 23andMe? It's strange that 23andMe doesn't have this info. for you. Please comment.

Most people who try to understand their DNA tests are looking at it from a very uneducated point of view. They expect these companies to provide 100% scientifically accurate information but fail to read the fine print. These companies base their results on the limited database of DNA samples their individual company possesses or has access to. The results are also "estimates". This means that there are technicians who are looking at your results, comparing them to other results, and making their own "professional" interpretation of the data. And the most important piece of information you have to factor in is whether or not the company you use is providing a n "AUTOSOMAL" DNA test, a "Mitochondrial" DNA test, or "Y-Chromosome" DNA test. They will all give you different results because the all look at different aspects of your DNA. So at the end of the day, when you compare different tests, are you looking at maternal lineage results, paternal lineage results, or a combined overview. If you don't know these very important details then you will likely be very confused by the different results.

The hunter gather is one of the oldest african tribes between the south Africa heading up kalahari are north of south Africa, once a year ancestrycom does a percentage algorithm update and changes the percentages, 23andme told me that could up date to 2 to 3 times a year depends, both companies have a little algorithm differently, personally right now I like 23andme more, but I do like the regions, like french, portuguese on ancestrycom, so on that I think 23andme will eventually get that specific too
