TL:DR -
RetroPie / Kodi users: Go for the 2GB or even 4GB model
Linux users: Go for the 4GB or 8GB model

You have a really calm, soothing voice.

If you were actually developing on the pi the extra ram could make a RAM disk and you could have a lightning fast drive drive speed for actual compilation.

Too late for me. I already ordered 2 the minute got an email at 3am eastern time saying it was available for purchase. There's nothing wrong being an early adopter. We will have a chance to work out all bugs and see the improvement as they come. My RPi 4's(five of them) are replacing all my computer equipment at home including PC, Mac and other ARM64 boards for surveillance, compiling code, NAS server, programming, HTPC(LibreElec) and desktop replacement(raspbian 32 bit), pi-hole server and android tv. I'm still working from home because of the pandemic situation by monitoring servers from work(network admin) using a humble Rpi 4(VNC server, sftp, ssh tunnel VPN tunnel, RDP, etc).

Now at $104.95 CAD, the RPi4 8GB version is rather less of a smashing bargain. I really regret missing the earlier price. 1. Is the change due to markup or just manufacturer cost? 2. Would you still recommend the 8?

If you want to edit real photos and not wallpapers then you for sure need 8gb version. After loading one 12Mp image and doing one adjustment (Highlights/Shadows) more than 1.5Gb of memory was used, while usually I edit 24Mp photos and do around 20 adjustments to a photo.

I bought 3 8 gigs from a store and found that they were cheaper than 75. I'm thinking it was a Sku issue, I bought all 3 8gig pi 4s for $66. That was for all 3 essential kits. Then I seen it on the web for 109. YAY ME!

My question is what's the GPU usage you sorta forgot to put that in there and that's important to the performance because nowadays most hardware and software is gpu-accelerated

I have a Pi 4 4gb and see absolutely no reason to upgrade. Perhaps when USB boot and 64 bit Raspberry Pi OS is out of beta, and the software catches up, it will be worthwhile. It has been a year since the 4b 4gb model came out and USB boot is still in beta, so not going to hold my breath waiting for the 64 bit OS. I am kind of tired of waiting on Pi folks promises. That being said, if I was getting a new Pi, then sure I would get the 8gb model.

When the x64 OS is released then the 8 gig will come in handy til then No point in 8gig

Props for the video it is a first rate review, detailed & informative. I've never used Raspberry Pi before but got curious about the Pi 400 & Pi 4 due to the form factor. I edit surf & snowboard videos on a white plastic Macbook using iMovie and it works for what I do. I am planning to upgrade my gear since it is quite ancient. I checked out CanaKit and they have an Extreme Kit Pi 4 with 8GB Ram & 128GB Sd card for $199.95 CAD, will I be able to edit videos with this Pi 4 setup that would approximate what I can do with iMovie? I am also slowly veering away from the major tech players and would rather support companies like Raspberry Pi or Pine 64.

Hey I have a few things to say. First off great video. Also are there emulators for rasberry pi os and is it ok compared to retropi os. In addition can you do a follow up video comparing rasberry pi os vs windows for ARM.

Hey how does this perform with 1080p60fps youtube videos? Also do you have a Patreon?

I am probably going to settle for the 4gb one since I don't really do any heavy usage and have been wanting to get one to replace my ancient pi 3b. This will be a great replacement too. I will most likely get one of the kits too so I have a shell with it.

They need to get rid of the SD Card slot and let us use an SSD from the start.
